  • E46 Questions

I'm ordering coils this week, what do you guys recommend doing in addition to the installation of the coilovers?

Basically, I know I'm going to replace the rear strut mounts, but I'm also wondering if any of you have run these: http://www.rogueengineering.com/rogu.../RSP_REIN.html ... are they totally necessary? Front strut mounts a good idea?

I'm just trying to get through this on the cheap, but I will get parts if I have to to prevent headaches down the road.

As far as the installation of the coilovers themselves go, I don't really have any questions. Pretty straightforward.

    Thanks in advance.

Nope don't need em. I also would mount the adjuster on the top to save yourself the headache later on.

Y u no inform me you were ready for coils?

I asked you about a set a few months back to get an idea on a price, they just were out of my budget. I'd love to have a set of Broadways eventually.

Need an E46 coupe test mule?

Ahh well good luck dude. Glad to see you're finally cracking into it regardless.

Coilovers and RSM's ordered. Don't think I need the RSM's quite yet, but they were $5.97 ea. and kind of a "while you're in there" wear item.

Kielan - How do you mean mount them on top? Just put them on top instead of the bottom? Should I also flip the spring over? I'm sure I would understand better if I had the kit sitting in front of me. It's in a warehouse in Utah at the moment, not really a help.

If I have any further questions, I'll post them in this thread.

Yup just put the collar up top. You shouldn't need to flip the spring.

Front sway links. Your stock ones will not work if you're going low. Either buy adjustable ones ($$$) or look into the GM links that are the correct length (late model Impala SS, google it).

I have the shorter endlinks for the front.

Now, is the adjuster easier to access in the rear when mounted on top? What is the benefit here over putting them on the bottom (where they usually would be)?

Bring able to access them without removing the rear shocks to gain droop. You'll figure it out the second you look at the rear wishbone.

I put them in on the bottom, doesn't look like I could access the adjuster if it was on top?

Anyway, I'm chasing a rattle coming from the rear on hard, jolting bumps, such as slightly sunken manhole covers. Over rolling bumps there is no noise, but on a jolt there is some sort of rattle and I can't figure out where the hell it's coming from.

It's WAY easier to get at the adjuster on top of the spring than the bottom.

check the screws that go under the spring perch in the rear. mine were loose and made rattles whenever i went over hard bumps, and eventually they got loose enough that it grinded on the axle and made a squeal every time i reversed.

I am not sure what screws you are talking about.
