  • someone help with my 4thgen prelude.

so hey everybody i will post my introduction up shortly. but meanwhile. i just picked up a 2nd car (4th gen prelude) and of course, my first mod is to dump the shit out of it. i love this forum because i wont get critisized by all the ignorant fucks that are on other forums. anyhoo, i cant find a decent suspension setup that will tuck wheel. i search "dumped" or "slammed" 4th gen lude and i see all these ludes that have a wheel gap i can stick my head in. at the bar minimum i want to tuck tire. it is gunna be my daily. i wanna slam the shit out of my civic but i cant yet cause im daily-ing it. any suggestions would help! thanks!

    Welcome to S/W dude.

I don't have actual hands-on experience with the 4th Gen Lude, but I'm 99% sure the designs are shared with most of Honda's offerings.

That being said, I'd suggest the typical Koni / Ground Control combination, coupled with custom top-hats for the struts. Summit Racing sells adjustable Koni Yellows [AKA Koni Sports] specifically for your model Prelude [I searched for a 1995, but all 4th Gens from '92-'96 will accept them] for roughly $155 each corner. Ground Control sells their coilover sleeve kits with spanner wrenches for about $300 last time I checked. I've also used AFCO sleeve kits with good success on my Integra, though I've had GC sleeves on everything else.

As far as the custom top-hats go, you can build them yourself if you are a fabricator of sorts. Taking a stock set of top-hats, cut the top strut mount off the bottom spring perch/body mount, measure the diameter of the area you're looking to extend, then using a decent mild steel tube just larger than the diameter of the upper top-hat mount [I've used exhaust tubing before, but I suggest mild steel tubing for best results], cut a 1-1/2" length and weld it both at the base of the top-hat mount, and weld the previously cut-off strut mount to the top of the new tube. Essentially what you'd be doing is raising the mounting location of the top of the strut, to allow the vehicle to sit lower over it, which lowers the car and closes wheel gap. I am honestly not sure if any companies specifically make extended top-hats for Preludes or if something offered for a Civic or Integra could be retrofitted.

I hope that makes some sense, I'm sure I can better describe it in the morning with some images for descriptive purposes. Good luck on the build.

No problem dude, my passion is modifying everything to be faster, handle better and look better, regardless of what it is. I try to think outside the box and help everyone with custom suspension questions. I'm no chassis engineer, but I like to think I've got a decent grasp of the theories and can apply them to just about anything. Hopefully it becomes a side-project with the potential of a career in the next few years.

Definitely drop some pics of your project, I'm interested to see where it goes.
