  • e28 Baggage, (WATCH OUT, NOOB HERE)

Hey yall, I recently bought an 82 528e, I really want to bag it. I was wondering if any of your brilliant mad scientists out there could help me become edumacated in this new world.

Would it even be relatively possible to daily on air? I live on a gravel road, and it can get intensely cold here in the winter.

I found a full kit from Airlift for an e30, would it fit on the e28 chassis?

Are there any super good kits out there for the e28??

More questions will arise as I delve deeper into the abyss of Low.

i tackled bagging my e28 as well.

the kit for the e30 wont work, as far as i know. someone else can chime in since im not positive.

there aren't really kits, you kind of have to build your own. there are several write ups floating around online, a few on this site.

and i dont see why it wouldnt be possible to daily the car on air.

    gimme a sec (e28 build)

Yes. A well-built air system can be perfectly reliable.

I would run air brake antifreeze in your system in the winter. Keeping water out of your system via water traps and/or a good drain system will help as lot as well.

The E30 kit will not fit as far as I know, otherwise we'd see more people running them. Many people use the AirLift Universal setup - there's an article here on StanceWorks that sketches out the basics of the install on the E28.

        Say-what-now???

I WAS recently guided to that article and I think it'll help me a lot! Especially since they used an e28 for their example.

Now, what's this about Airbrake what-not?? And water traps???

        Help this noob!

When air is compressed it basically condenses the water in the air. (I skipped a few steps but that's simplest) This water ends up condensing in the lines and eventually, the valves and bags. When it freezes obviously that's bad.

Semi trucks use water traps to catch the water and stuff called air brake antifreeze to keep whatever water that got past the water traps from freezing and causing problems.

Semi trucks use brakes powered by air so its fairly important to them to keep everything from freezing
