  • Honest Airride Reliability as a 150 mile per week Daily?

Air ride technology seems to of really come along (from my very much outside observations!) and seems a more sensible choice for lows while retaining some comfort and practicality. But how reliable actually is it? Would you want to do a daily commute in it without fear of breakdown?

I've always been a coilovers man and now have an E46 M3 for fun weekend driving and a E60 diesel for daily work. Both are on coilovers and the daily especially I wish was a little more comfortable but don't want to sacrifice the appeal of lows.

So how reliable is it for people doing the miles???

Now, i don't drive my Z daily... BUT from the long trips i have taken it on to shows i would never second guess the reliability of it. I do have friends on air that daily their cars and they feel the same way. I would have no concerns at all driving a good quality set up day to day.

With quality work done, air suspension is very reliable.

I ran AirLift Performance struts with AccuAir Switchspeed in my daily for a good 20,000km's.

Worked an absolute charm, and did countless road trips (greater than 6 hour drives) and didn't have any hiccups.

I daily drove my golf on air for 20-30k miles a year for two years in Chicago where winters are rough. I spent a month after my install periodically chasing down leaks, taking the wheels off, checking things, making sure that all of the air line and connections were in safe spots and had plenty of room to move when turned to full lock, etc. After I chased the leaks out and was confident that all of my connections were secure, I didn't touch my air again. I am now in my third year driving the car, and no longer daily it, but still have not had any problems whatsoever. When I go on long road trips, I am more concerned that I will get a flat tire than have a problem with my air ride!

Moral of the story is, if it is installed with care, it is just as reliable as coilovers. Just a bit more fun IMO!

I've had mine for just under a year. BMW 335D E92 on Accuair and at first I too was chasing down leaks thanks to the shop who fitted my kit but didn't secure connections. With the excellent customer service of Accuair I managed to chase down the cause of my leak, replace the parts free that Accuair posted out for me and since then have not worried about my car one bit.

Like the guy said above I'm more concerned about a flat tyre than air as once you know your connections are secure, you have virtually nothing to worry about.

If installed correctly, the bags should easily outlast the car.

Go for it, you won't regret it!

do it do it do it... i installed a set i built on my M3, was super worried at first as i commute 140 miles a day for work and about 100 miles for school on other days. Once original leaks had been fixed from install ive had no problems with anything. Would highly recommend it.

For those who have kindly replied, are you all running e-level systems? This is the set up that interests me the most.
