Airlift builders kit welding

I've got the Airlift Builder kit 75563 for the front of my e30 and was wondering if anyone can give me some better hints to welding the shock to the strut tube. Welding the new tube to the spindle is not that daunting of a task as you can get the thickness of the tube for setting up your welder and you don't have to worry about blowing through the shock. Any more help than "weld in 3/4 inch sections and quench in water" would be great.
