  • Interesting tank leak, no external leaks I can see

couple days ago, i switched my pressure switch from a 120/150 to a 150/200. That switch didnt work, so i accidentally aired up to 215 psi. The valves or my dakota digital didnt really like it, one corner wouldn't lift, the valves would chatter. was doign weird stuff at 200 as well. Anyway, i will be goign with a 150/175 switch i jsut found.
Problem: 2 days ago i noticed a hissing sound from the tank. its mainly constant, but sometime it sputters like the leak is sealed, but then starts again. Listen to the video to understand what Im talking about. Now, I have no external leaks in the trunk wheremy 2 compressors, tank, vu4 manifold and air trap are. Verified everything with soapy water, and a hose in my ear around all connections (i find this is even better than soapy water if you cannot get a clear 360 view of the connection.)

Anwway, so the tank drops 30 psi overnight, and my one corner drops 10 psi. now the corner has been leaking before, so im not too surprised with it. I dont know if it leaks more now than before.

Did i mess something up when the pressure went to 215 on the manifold? Is the leaking bag tied with the tank? doesnt make sense if tank drops 30 psi while bag only drops 10 psi.

And i had the leaking bag before this tank issue came up.

Heres the video, any insight would be helpful.

Hey man. I totally understand your concern with the issue. Leaks are annoying as heck. I have a leak that comes and goes in one corner myself. It likes to leak about 10 psi overnight as well. In the grand scheme of things though its really not a big deal (approx 1 psi an hour?) It might be advisable to just kinda let that go, and only get worried if it gets worse. As far as the loss of tank pressure is concerned....are you experiencing harsh winter conditions? Cold conditions are known for making tank pressure go down....If I had to guess though, its possible perhaps the valve manifold may have been damaged from experiencing pressures beyond its advisable tolerance? Look in your manual. If I were you just keep going through the motions using process of elimination. You'll either find your issue or learn to live with it. Both of which will be a-OK....Let me know what you find out! Good luck!

if you listen to the he video you can definitely hear the air is coming out. Never had this issue before I started dicking with it lol. the bag leak isnt tooo big a deal, but I will get aroudn to fixing that. the tank leak is quite noticeable, and I do not like that. Especially because I know i did something to mess it up. Just very strange i can not hear any leaks aroudn any connections or the manifold.

and you already went hammer with the soapy water?! I mean if it's audible it should be easy as fork to find it.

Thys what i mean, no leaks on manifold or any connectors! The hose into ear is very very good method for listening to leaks (i found my drain cock had a tiny leak this way), and tried sopay water. No leaks. really bewildering.

well ill be damned. the tank stopped leaking. same psi overnight. maybe was dirt trapped in valves.
Weird thing though, it has a cross bleed issue it seems. front rigth goes down a few psi, front left goes up a few psi...
Also when pumping up both front at same time, the front right (furthest from teh manifold) is always underinflated by like 10 psi compared to left bag.

interesting...well at least the tank thing is over. As far as the cross bleed issue, that's beyond my expertise. Id just compensate for it by adjusting the less inflated bag individually. hahaha.

Thats what I do but I **** it lol. On my mustang, i want everythign as manaul and adjustable as possible. Manual choke, carbed, adjustable prop valve etc. On teh lex, i want everythign to be ultra automatic. Like shit, i want to think of it turning on and going to the height I want with my brain power!

quick Qm, i was looking at the air mufflers from accuair. Does anyone have a video of a before and after? Its quite loud and scares passengers in the rear when i go low lol. Also, looking to quiet it down just for luxury factor.

Hey man, how is the situation going so far? Did that tank leak come back and are you still getting the cross bleed situation with the manifold? Are you running a steel tank by any chance?

The Mead Dump Mufflers (the ones AccuAir uses) do make a big difference. I don't have a video or anything but I will say it's hard to scare passengers with them installed.

As for the check valve, the SMC Check Valves that we sell on our site are rated to 218psi so those should do the trick for you!
