Soooo the Malibu is finally on air....HUGE props to epicenterdesigns and ro for all the help and teaching me as we went!
Got donk?
Laid out...the rear tucks EXACTLY how I wanted it to. Between the wheel and tire stretch Got lucky on that lol.... It sits on the tire up front so still have some camber to adjust after I get an alignment.
Looks good so far! These seem like one of those cars that transforms radically when lowered - like it's ugly as balls in stock trim, but give it a little love...
The cuts around the rear bag are making me a little nervous. I know you're going to clean them up, but is that part of the unibody framerail that you've cut into? In either case, it looks like you've removed a considerable amount of the strength of that area - I'm concerned that the piece of metal that the bags mount to is going to start folding under compressive load.
It's been a LONG time coming. But Epicenterdesigns and I finally put the Malibu under the knife! It's not done and there are still a lot of things to clean up for the finished install but we got a good chunk finished this weekend. Epicenter should be wrapping it up today!
Here it is!
Now to some install pics
Front UAS Aerosport bags on Saab 9-3 struts with 3/8" Airline ran
In the rear we didn't use bag brackets to allow an extra 1"+ to the drop. Took a good deal of cutting but it will be well worth it. The cuts aren't finished as we will be cleaning it up a bit and adding airline safety precautions
I didn't skimp on ANY aspect of this build so we ended up going with parker fittings
With the way we laid everything out we ended up keeping the glassed trunk...the compressors are hidden behind each side of the panel, out of sight.
5 gallon firestone tank with fittings attached ready to be drilled in.
5 gallon tank mounted in place. This will be getting dipped chameleon pearl to match wheels, amp inserts, etc.
This is a test fitment before we adjusted the camber to let the wheel tuck. We were curious if it could without camber. A big NO to that answer lol. It stopped on the fender car before it fully compressed. Way more travel to go!
I should have some more pics posted up later today as we finish it! So siked to finally get this beast on the road! HUGE thanks to Epicenter designs for helping me on almost every aspect of this build and teaching me all the bag ways!
Sooo got my wheels test mounted tonight and the back fit (will still prob get some 5mm spacers. The front hit my calipers so I have to get adapters that extend with studs bcz 8mm is the biggest spacer I can use with stock studs. Malibus ftl lol
