  • Bags on a classic Corolla

Hello everyone. I'm a new member here and beyond a noob when it comes to air suspension. I was, for a long time, one of those people who thought bags only found their way on to mini trucks and old hard body chevies. I've since reconsidered my position and am looking to bag my Te51 Corolla project. You can see my build here

Could anyone here possible school me in how bags are used on Toyota setups like this (rear leafs and solid axle) to achieve a standard ride height and controllable drop. Any part info and system recommendations would be great as well. I'm not sure if this has ever been done on a Corolla from this generation since most are resto projects or used in autoX or drift but again info and time you guys could spare would be greatly appreciated.

Also here's a pic (not my car just one like it) oh how the rear is set up. The front uses struts like an AE86 with the spindle as a permanent part of it.

the rear you will need a leaf over bracket system and the necessary bag to go with the bracket system the fronts will look similar to this when done

This is a e30 front that we did for one of our project cars at the shop.....done with air lift universal front struts

Glad to hear you are looking at going bagged! I strongly suggest you visit our website and do some research on all the options for you. You can do an install like the e30 above, but PLEASE choose an option that is designed as a strut, not a shock The rod size of our shocks is NOT sufficient in diameter to handle the bending loads in a strut. We have lots of options in struts that could be properly applied to your car: http://www.airliftperformance.com/ap...ons/universal/

I also suggest you read the linked SW article about how they accomplished a clean install that works great!

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks for the input so far, I know I have a lot of reading and research to do and this should give me a decent start. Much appreciated

Oo yikes, wouldn't have used Chapmans for the front struts.. You might want to consider using something different on the e30. As Brian mentioned, those 'struts' should only be used as a shock because of the small rod diameter.

When you're ready to get the ball rolling, I can help you figure out what will work best on your car. We can start with measurements and go from there! The rear of the Corolla is very similar to the rear of a Mk1 Caddy which is a pretty straightforward project.

used them before and never had any issues but only on smaller light weight vehicles
