HELP - air ride URGENT ADVICE

hi all,

i'm new to this site, i've joined as i need urgent assistance with my air ride setup.

I have an MGZR which is bagged on a FIRESTONE setup, its very basic system and few years old.


my query for you all is:


1) is this wear on my rear bags normal?

i'm very concerned about the wear on the rubber, should i be worried??

P.S. i know its rusty on the struts i will be removing the struts for clean and paint very soon,

Well they don't look great.. That chaffing is obviously from normal wear and tear but I would be concerned with it as the bags are going to continue to wear like that. How old are they?

Hmm.. Not good.

The struts are designed to drop tho down onto the Wider section below being the rolling lobe design. The bag isn't to damaged but I was just concerned how do I prevent this from getting worse??


The setup is 2-3 year old now id say. May even be little older I wasn't the one who originally bought it so can't say for sure

How thick are the bags?? Are Firestone any good?

It looks bad in pic's but there not actually much worn in regards to thickness.. It's fractions of a mm.

I don't really think there is going to be any way you can prevent that wear from happening. It seems like it is just the nature of the bag material/ design. The Air Lift tapered sleeve bags get little grooves in the over the years but they don't chaff like that. The rubber of the tapered sleeve bags that we have here are about 3mm in thickness but the Firestone rubber is a little different than the Air Lift rubber.

You might want to send those pictures over to Firestone to see what they think as I haven't had much experience with older Firestone bags and this very well could be ugly, but normal wear.

I've tried to find a Firestone contact in uk but had no luck. Guess I'll try again later and see if I can find a Firestone distributor and see what they say.


You work for company who sell air I take it? I have a very basic system with single gauge / 2 switches and small tank. I want to upgrade to make it quicker.. What do I need? How much would it cost?

What size air line do you have on your car right now? Running larger sized air line will increase the movement speed but you will also need to get new fittings to accept the larger air lines. Are your lines and fittings metric or standard? If they're metric, we don't have them on our site but we can get anything you need!
