  • re-drilling hubs? 5x120 compatible with 4x114.3

my research yielded a image of 5x120 with an overlapped 4x100 not being compatible but i was wondering if maybe a 4x114.3 would be?

You can insert one of the 4x114.3 to 5x120 and then drill 4 more holes if the pad is flat. You'll have 8 holes with one hole being shared.

I wouldn't follow this route. While you will have drilled a 5x114.3 pattern, it will not be centered on the hub which will not work so well for driving.

I meant one of the 4x114.3 holes....

what do you mean not centered on the hub?

It will end up looking like this..

You can't go from a 5 lug wheel to 4 lugs unless you fill and drill one of the holes and overlap the other 4x100 bolt pattern. If the wheel has a cap, flat pad, you can drill them like the picture I posted above. I've gone from 4x100 to 4x108 filled and drilled and there's nothing wrong with it, ride is fine and wheels balance.

This is not what the original poster askes he want's a 5x120 and 4x114 dual drilled

your example picture is of a 5x114.3 and 4x114.3 they can share a hole b/c both patterns are the same diameter hence the holes all fall at the same distance from the center. (the radius of both circles is equal)

The OPs original suggested bolt holes cannot be lined up like this b/c the radius of the 120mm pattern is larger than the 114.3 pattern.

This is also, in many cases incorrect, a 5x100 wheel can be dual drilled to 4x100, and like the example above 5x114.3 can be drilled 4x114.3 as well since in both instances the patterns share the same diameter.

This photo shows the overlap and why the old holls must be filled.

Here is an example of a filled and redrilled 5x120 to 4x100 wheel.

Redrilled wheels should never affect balance, if your looking for somewhere to do the work I highly recommend rotiform as I have personally seen their work on Mike's wheels and can say with confidence it is top notch.

You do realize that this picture below is done just like i said...btw those bmw wheels have those extra holes which don't allow much room for a redrill

unless you fill and drill one of the holes and overlap the other 4x100 bolt pattern

Seriously, read what I said. I've done it before but you're telling me it can't be done...

If the op is trying to go from 4x114.3 to 5x120 all he has to do is INSERT one of the 4 lug holes to 120mm and drill the rest of the 4 other holes like the other picture I posted.

When drilling and filling there's not much of a difference but some wheels need more weights to balance them because of the material being added or removed.

I know nothing, end of discussion....
