  • Never thought I'd make a fail stretch thread

205/40 Fuzion zri's on 17x8.5. Came around a sweeping curve pretty hard and felt the back end jumping up and down. That was a fun pitstop.

are you sure you didnt puncture the tire and ran it flat first? This exact thing happened to a friend of mine who had a slight stretch as well (235/35 on a 19x9.5). At first glance we thought the sidewall just gave. But upon further inspection, there was a puncture and no nail, so once the air drained out, the tire itself shred the sidewall.

air pressure is a bitch, it'll cause any tire to fail, stretched or not. Unless you dismounted the bead, i wouldnt call it a stretch fail.

Don't let the anti-stretch people get ahold of this thread, they want something EXACTLY like this.

They have plenty of exactly this already...

You need more stretch, that was a sign.

Yeah I haven't even looked at the tire closely yet, just threw it in my garage. I'll check it out but just assumed it was the sidewall that shat on itself. Don't worry, this isn't taking me away from the stretch scene yet.

Sidewalls can fail in multiple ways, stretched or not. The bead of the tire is still seated, so it's not a stretch thing.

I had a tire fail on me, but it turned out to have a sidewall puncture. I took a sweeping turn off a freeway and noticed the rear of the car felt strange. When I got in the garage the tire was completely flat. There was a 2 inch slash in the sidewall. I believe it was the fenders not being rolled at that time though. It was just enough to catch the sidewall on a hard bump or turn, and thus caused a tire failure.

Could be your tires though. Fuzions are the worst tires I can remember having. They stretch nice on anything, but the sidewall is so sloppy is rediculous. The tire doesn't grip for shit either.

You can see from the photo that the side wall is pretty worn down, my guess is it went flat shortly before you entered the corner and then the side to side pressure caused it to rip apart. I had a similar situation one time with a nail in my side wall on a 50 series tire... but I was forced to drive on it roughly half a mile with a very low tire and that was enough for the sidewall to give out once I filled it back up with air.

highly doubt this. You gotta be rubbing REALLY bad to cause a tire to overheat and fail on you.

Exactly right! I've repaired dozens of flat tires a weak for the last couple years, and I can tell you with 99.99999% confidence that, that picture is a tire that was flat, and ran on for too long so the pressure on the sidewall caused it to tear apart like that. A lot of times the bead will stay seated on the rim, but detach from the rest of the tire, when we dismount it it looks like a hula skirt!

That is why a lot of modern cars come with a tpms so that doesn't happen!
If your having stance problems I feel bad for you son.

fuc em, they push the car hard at the track and breake shit all the time. This is just a tire and on top it's 1 / out of how many?

Id rather buy shit from rubbin over racing any day.
