  • polish or powdercoat first?

    Hello guys.
I've got a set of one peace wheels and want the centers powdercoated with a polished lip. The place i'm doing it @ only does the coating, and they dont usually do wheels. So they had no idea how is it better to proceed with this.
    Any input is helpful.
    Thanks.

Figure you are gonna polish the lips?
Since we don't have powerdcoaterds here in the Faroes, i was stuck with painting the them.
What i did, was polish the lip, mask it off, then paint the center. No idea how clean they can pull that off at a shop that is dealing with powder.

Pic of what i did, started sanding all the wheel, then lip polish, masking than spray.

You need to buy this tape, it's made for powdercoating.

Get the best deals for High Temp Powder Tape at eBay.com. We have a great online selection at the lowest prices with Fast & Free shipping on many items!

Tape off the polished lips and ask the powdercoater to dust the wheel instead of sandblasting it totally. Hope this helps...

Appreciate the info, but um... More explanation please on dusting instead of blasting. Because as seen in a lot of videos it just looks like misting powder over the rim.

I was going to sandblast the whole rim, to get rid of the paint and clear coat, then polish the lips and cover with that tape you suggested. Also any info on what width tape is best for a stepped lip?
