Hi Folks,
I was wondering if three piece wheels require support from the lip, or if the bolts going through the lip and barrel are enough. If you look at most three piece wheels, the face often has a ledge that the lip fits nicely into. On other wheels where the face mounts outside of the lip, the face rests on the ledge that is stamped into the lip.
I'm building a set of wheels with a face that mount on the outside of the lip. They are 20 hole Japanese wheels and I don't think that I will find lips that have a 'supporting ledge. Does this matter?
Interestingly enough I found a picture of WEDS Fins, which is what I have. I didn't realize this but the back of the spokes rest on the lip. So in this case the outer lip isn't supporting the wheel but there is extra support from the spokes. I'll need to find or make the exact size lips for these wheels:
