  • Flat-face wheels/conical lugs???

Alright, so, just found a set of 15x7 vintage Cragar wheels (haven't been able to identify exact model yet) on Craigslist and decided to bite the bullet on them, as they were really in great shape.

Now, these are old Cragar mag wheels, with flat faces. The pattern on these wheels is GM 5x120.65, going on a BMW. I've test fit the wheels with 3 lugs and they fit. My question is, since BMW uses a conical-seat lug, should I take the wheels to a machine shop to have the lug holes counter-sunk to match the seat of the lug bolt?

Can you find lugnuts that will fit the wheels without machining them?
Also, what is the hub bore size of the wheel?
The .65 mm difference will not matter as long as the hub is centered.

The center bore is a few mils larger in diameter than the hub itself. My thought process is that if I bevel/bore out the lug holes in a press to accommodate the cone seat of the lug, they should center themselves just fine.

They are the old "mag" style wheels that use flat washers/lugs. Will post photo for reference shortly.

Get hubcentric rings and proper lug bolts?
I'd advise against relying on lug holes to center the wheel.

I think what I'll end up doing is buying the conical seat inserts, in addition to hubcentric rings. I don't like the idea of a wheel centered by lug bolts, either. I'm getting too damn old to risk a wheel taking a walk on me. Thanks for your input, per usual!
