do i need t take of the tyes if i just want to paint the face of my rim?

speaking from my experience today, yes. even if the face is mounted on the top/bottom. mine split once i took off the face

if the centers are top or bottom mounted all you need to do is let the air out of the tires once the tires are fully deflated you can remove the faces and you will not damage the inner seals

This. I've definitely seen people do it. As long as it's a face mounted wheel (as yours look like), it should be easy enough.

Strange, definitely never heard of people having issues when doing this. The barrel and lip are still sealed so that's a bit surprising

Those look like Lip/Face/Barrel not Face/Lip/Barrel. I don't see how he can remove the face without taking the lip or the barrel off first, meaning the tires have to go too. They don't look like they come apart like Style 5's or other 2 piece wheels where you can just pop out the face.

well guess what, you are mistaken, ive done it numerous times, did it just last week on a set of schmidts, so I speak from first hand experience
