  • how much air in tires?

    hey,

how much air do i need with my stretched tires? i have 235/30/20 and 255/30/20, how many psi do i need all around?

read the rating on the tire. its no different than a non-stretched tire. my tires say max 40psi. my car isnt a daily, but i always check my pressure before i drive and make sure its around 38psi.

well if its a 235/35 on a 7inch wheel, its streched outwards, so you may need less
but if its on a 10j, you may need more

how about you put the details in. the devil is in the details bud

Use what your car says to use on the door tag inside the driver side door sill.

no, because those are not factory tires. The tire has a max psi on it, dont excede it and it'll be fine and dont go too low and it will be fine.

i'm running 195/40x17 on 8's and 205/40x17's on 9's and have started at 40psi. might be to much but car weight (e46 sedan) so will go from there.

stretched tyres should need a few more psi surely to stop them from popping off the rims or deforming etc and damaging them don't them???

you wont pop that bead off. You can drive that car at 100mph and take a corner and that bead wont come off. It wont come off if you hit a big bump either. It wont come off any easier than a regular tire. The forces required to take that bead off will take the bead off an un-stretched tire too.

When i took my 235/40 off my x11" after about 6 months of driving, the tire stayed stretched even off the rim.

That's given the correct pressure and the same force exerted on said tire was constant.

A tire low on pressure that's stretched will come unseated easier than a non-stretched tire on the same wheel with the same pressure.

Low pressure for tires are a bitch.

im not convinced about that, people tend to forget that theres another sidewall on the inside thats pushing back.

I left on vacation one time and when i came back my rear tire was completely flat, i mean ZERO psi, anyway, i couldnt fit the jack under the car since it was sitting on the rim lip, so i decided to drive it up on a piece of wood to be able to jack it. I thought the bead was gonna come off, but it didnt. Im talking the whole tire was completely crumpled, i drove it up on the wood, and nothing happened. Ive driven with them on the highway, and taken corners at low psi (less than 10) and no beads came off, no issues at all. I had no idea it was low so i wasnt taking it easy.

low air pressure on any tire, stretched or not can cause failures.

I also mean pressure exerted on the tires was great (as in with racing/drifting/whatever). Ever see that picture of the red 240 with the tire that unseated itself?

With normal driving, it would be difficult to pop said bead off, but you still could. Abdiel did it while driving around town with 205/45/17 on a 9.5.
