  • Has anyone here had wheels built by EWheelworks???

    Hi guys,

I ask because this is my first time building a custom set of wheels and so far, i m beginning to get really dissappointed with this ordeal. I m wondering how long have any of you waited to get wheels built? I was told it would be 2 months to have my wheels built back in May. It is now September and i have yet to recieve my wheels. Machining is supposed to be done to my wheels and apparently the machine shop isnt doing jacksh**t. I keep getting told the same thing and i m pretty much frustrated at this point.
I was told my wheels would be ready by a certain time so i could meet my deadline and now all my plans are getting screwed by this crap.

I dont know what anyone else's experience in dealing with EWheelworks has been, but mine so far has not been good. I chose this company because from what I ve read everywhere, their expertise is in BBS wheels. But this is bs. Correct me if i m wrong, but if you are told your product will be done by a certain time, wouldnt you expect that to be the case?

    Idk...guess i m just venting.

I think Paul is very knowledgeable, but if machinist is not delivering it is Paul's responsibility to find another shop or get the work done somehow.
How did you handle the payment? In full or deposit first?

I did a deposit first. I don't owe him a lot either. I do believe he is very knowledgeable, but my whole issue right now is that I specifically asked and told him what my goals were and by when I needed to have my car ready. I asked him if he could meet my deadline and he said yes. This was back in the beginning of May. He told me it would take 2 months...so i took him at his word. It is now September, and I have nothing. I cant even get my car done because the body shop will not take my car unless I have the wheels. To top it all off, I wont be able to do what I originally planned because of all this.

To me the money is not the issue. It is that if I asked him if he could meet my deadline, and he said yes, then I expect that deadline to be met....I dont wanna hear any BS. Apparently the machine shop guy is not doing anything, so the faces to my wheels are just sitting in this asswipe's shop, undone. And when I ask Paul to let me know what is going on, he tells me that they are still at the guys shop. Telling me that doesnt solve my issue. He's still not telling me what he's doing about it in order to solve my problem!

At this point, I dont know if I even want the wheels anymore. I wont be able to attend the event I was planning to go to because my car will not be done in time due to this BS.

      IMO, this is irresponsible bullshit!

Ask him which shop it is and contact them yourself and try and resolve it. I'd be pissed too, but that's the problem with dealing with middle-men.....next time, give it a go yourself. The splitting and reassembling part is super easy and you can source out the other work you can't do yourself where you're the one dealing with any shops and not relying on someone else in the middle who might not care as much. Hopefully you get it sorted!

Believe me man, I would ve done that myself if I had known what to do exactly. They're 2-piece wheels being converted to 3-piece, so I didnt know exactly what needed to be machined. Now i do, but its too late because the asshat at the machine shop has my parts and Paul has the other ones. It seems to me like Paul is not doing anything in regards to the machine shop guy. Just letting the guy decide whenever he wants to get off his ass and do the work. Apparently, he's done this before. Which begs the question....if the jackass has done this before, then why continue to outsource jobs to him? It doesnt make any sense! If I were to do that to a client at my job, promising a project would be done in X amount of time and I dont deliver, I'm fired!

I'm at a point now where I dont want the wheels anymore and just want my money back. I'm going to miss the event I've been waiting all year to go to due to these guys's irresponsibility.

I know many people vouch for Paul and EWheelworks on here and other forums. Its the only reason I decided to go with EWheelworks to build my wheels. But based on this experience, never again will I trust a shop to build wheels. I should ve just went with a legitimate manufacturer like CCW or Avant Garde, like I was planning to, but I guess you live and you learn.

All I can say is that if anyone else wants wheels built, but has a specific deadline, do not use EWheelworks. Either do it yourself or find another, more reputable place to do it for you.

not talking trash about anyone but for a 2 to 3 piece job i'd only deal with jake at threepiece.us, great guy, very knowledgeable and he builds custom cars too so he understands deadlines. if you tell him you need it by a certain date, he'll tell you if it can be done. if he says it can, it will be done. he also is a very stand up guy, dude will call you back when you ask, answer emails very quick and he always answers my questions (stupid questions) respectfully.

When did I tell you 2 months?

You are upset because you think I lied to you to earn your business. That is not the case.

Regardless, I have had your wheels for 4 months, I am converting your style 5's to 3 piece using double stepped lips (that are VERY time consuming to get) that the other guys dont use. They use standard single stepped parts. Which are easier to get. We are doing custom lips, custom machine work, powder coating, polishing and painting. There is also the hardware that needs sourcing. This stuff takes time. And I dont think that 4 months is that crazy.

I am a very stand up guy, myself. I have a great reputation for good reason. I do not lie about deadlines to get business in the door. And I do GREAT work.

Yes, these things take longer than I would like, and I think its fair that you are upset, it is not fair to talk like that, however.

Most of us small start up wheel guys are middle men. We have to start somewhere. It would be foolish to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on equipment that we arent sure we need. I am actually using a second machinist as of last week to try to get back on track. I care very much about my clients, and I work my ass off to bring this stuff in house. My powder coating operation is just about dialed in, Ive purchased a mill, a tig welder and I will continue to bring more in house as the years go by. I am doing this all by myself, no help from Mommy and Daddy (like MOST of the other guys) and no loans. Its extremely challenging. MOST of my wheel builds take longer than I would like, which causes me great stress. But I assure you, there are very few people ON EARTH that are creating a finished product as nice as what we are creating here.

NO ONE on the west coast (no offense to Jake, Jakes an awesome dude) can match quality that we are producing here. In fact, I think we are doing some of the nicest work in the world.

Your wheels are getting close now, I just have to machine the faces and than powder coat them. Everything else is done. When you see them, you are going to realize why they take such a great length of time to complete.

Those of you telling him to do it himself. I challenge you guys to see if you can do it. And do it as well as we can.

You have to find a machinist, a painter, a powder coater, you have to source the lips/barrels, and than you have to find a polisher. You also have to source BBS logos, and hardware. Good luck.

Much respect to EWW, but a lot of people can do this..see BFI's new kit to convert for ridiculously cheap. Good powder is a dime a dozen, sourcing caps is easy, polishing the same....
only funky bit is the machining which is obviously where they're stuck.

But it seems like your wheels are in good hands and will get finished, so there's nothing too huge to worry about.

UPDATE: Things have been resolved between Paul and I. Paul definitely came through for me and I have to say that he really is a stand up guy. I will also say that this thread was probably unnecessary. It didnt help anyone.

If I can have a mod please lock and delete this thread, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks,

If there's a way for me to contact a moderator directly, please let me know.

                  Thanks guys,

To Paul, thanks for coming through for me man. I really appreciate it.
