  • BBS RS Powdercoat is chipping...... WHY?!

As the title states I just recently powder coated my BBS RS' I powder coated all 4 lips and when I would torque down the hardware that holds everything together the powder coat would literally fly off the lip…I held all the bolts with a socket and tightened the nut from behind like its supposed to be done. It seems that the powder couldn't withstand the pressure from torquing down the hardware. I ordered the powder from prismatic powders and it says to bake at 400 for 10 minutes and thats what I did but here's my question why is this happening? I've seen plenty of people powder coat BBS lips and have no issues with chipping. Here are a couple of pictures to show you guys what happened. Those of you who have powder coated 3 piece wheels or BBS lips with any info or any explanations as to why this is happening or any solutions would be greatly appreciated!

First off... who powder coated them?

It sounds like you did it yourself...

Did you fully strip the old paint/clearcoat?

Did you media blast the lips before powder coating?

What powder coat gun did you use?

    What oven did you use?

      ^ Good questions all.

If your powder wound up under-cured or overly thick, either of those will cause it to chip and delaminate like mad.
