  • Quick Tire Question

So I have a set of 18x10 Futuras and I am looking at running a 225/40 tire. My thing is, the 40 sidewall still looks to meaty to me and was curious to see if anyone runs a 225/35 on a 10 size wheel? Any opinions on running a 35 size sidewall on that stretch?

My feeling is I should stick to the 225/40 for the extra sidewall protection with that stretch unless others run with a 35 sidewall and have had no issues, even with driving long distances and daily drivability. I've done a ton of searching and really only find people running either 225/40 or 215/40.

I also understand some tires run wide and others smaller, depending on brand. Which is why I'm most likely sticking to:
    Toyo proxes T1 sport
    Dunlop dz102
Dunlop sp9000 (if I can find any under $600 >_>)
    Kumho ecsta

And if I ran a 225/35 id most likely run some S drives because I know they run a little wider but still stretch nice on a 35 sidewall.

And other tires on a 225/35

Any thoughts on a 235/35 on a 10? Obviously less stretch then a 225/40 but if wanted a 35 sidewall maybe that would be the better choice?

Thanks for any help and info.

It really depends on how tough of a stretch you want to have. The 225/35 and 215/40 are pretty much the same stretch.

    this is 215/40 on 10

and this is 225/35 on 10

235/35 works too though, will be a bit less of a stretch but still decent. That would be almost the same as the most commonly use 225/40 on 10.

My buddy is running 215/35 on his 9.5 allround without any issues btw, it just is a very little sidewall.

All the tires you mentioned are solid choices.

Yeah I was originally going to do a 215/40 but it's too much for me. I'm going to have the car in a body shop anyway when it gets painted so I'm going to have my fenders cut and pulled slightly so they sit flush to the 225/40 or possibly if I go up a size. 225/40 is a good stretch though for me.

Some friends are telling me a 35 series will mess with your overall rolling diameter and screw with your speedo and actual mileage a bit.

All you need to do is calculate the overall diameter of your stock tires and the new ones you'll be putting on. You can figure out the percentage difference from there and decide whether your speedometer and odometer being off by that percentage matters to you.
