  • Question about individual buying wheels with complaints

I would appreciate some input/advice on this.

Sold wheels to another (non SW) forum member.
In original ad (still up and unmodified) stated one had a slight bend.
Buyer received wheels and said everything was good.
Few days pass and I get a PM that one is severely bent and needs drastic professional work. It was discovered to be bent while mounting tires.
Buyer takes the wheels to a shop for repairs and quotes a very high price which was paid
Buyer accepts partial refund and all is well.
Today I receive a message that he wants money back and all are bent.

I stated there was a slight bend on one and took tons of pictures documenting the wheels. My concern is he damaged my wheels further or has a different set he wants to return. I'm all for taking back items and refunding fully if I overlooked something, but this is 2 weeks later and I already paid his partial refund and accommodated all other requests.

    Opinions, past experiences, etc?

Don't use Paypal. That's my experience.
Also, after the initial day or so, there are no refunds IMO. I have been sent back wheels that have looked like they were ran through the ringer and its bull shit.
    Real name is James

^ Concur with the above. Sounds more like buyer's remorse than anything. The tire shop should have noted the bends in the other three at the same time.

Agreed with you both, thank you for the replies. I am normally a push over when it comes to customer service relations and I wanted to make sure I wasn't leaning hard the other way. When I told him no to the suggestion of sending them all back him having them for two weeks he responded violently with threats.

I told him I did not want further communications if he wanted to threaten me and if he wanted a refund he is welcome to go through paypal as I have pictures of the wheels and the original ad, as well as our conversations.

The dark side of selling stuff online I guess, I've never encountered anything like this transaction.

Thanks and have a great evening fellas.

This guy is still giving me crap and tells me stories about dishonest people like his boss and about problems with people in general it is absurd.

I'm not going to post anything directly out of respect except for this, he stated "I know, my wife knows, and soon so will other people know, that you sold me wheels that aren't worth their weight in scrap.". If he wants to open up a can of worms, I would be happy to show the world his threats and hysteria on the subject.

            His logic is:

            Wheels are "great"
Wheels need repair (I stated it had a bend in the ad but still offered to fix it, I'm dumb for doing that)
To all tires mounted and I feel it in the wheels (yet the shop never said anything).

I told him I no longer want to discuss it with him further, if he wants to open it up with paypal he welcome to it and I wish him the best.

The tire shop noted no bends, but he feels a vibration? This throws up two flags: the shop did a bad job of balancing the wheels, or more likely, improper install (hub-centric fit, lug tightening pattern, clean hub surface). And of course, after 2 weeks driving on them, who knows what damage he could have done.

Stick to it. Any damage should have been noted the first time he got tires installed.

Thanks for the reply Kyle, I did not even think about rings. He even had to ask me what bolts to use so I doubt he used rings. I'll keep this in mind for when PayPal comes knocking.

I'm usually very understanding as well so I know where u r coming from.

I say pound sand as well. The buyer sounds ignorant to the world of high end wheels.

Yes to hub centric rings. Possible for wobble bolts. And one thing to consider as well that just happened to me is that the softer compound summer tires are lumpy when cold... Wait for the tires to heat up and then they run smooth. Depending on pavement and ambient temps that are not above 40 will play some role in the ride of summer tires.

                    Just a thought.

But yes, you have been more than accommodating IMO.

Good morning fellas and thank you for the replies.

Dealing with this guy was beyond anything I've ever experienced.

In the end he went the paypal route (which I encouraged if he felt wronged and told him to stop messaging me directly). Paypal rejected his claim after reading everything over so I did not have to refund and take the wheels back.

After hearing horror stories when utilizing paypal, I'm glad it worked out well.

                      Happy Monday!
