  • Identify this wheel bolt?

I just picked up a set of Enkei Phalenx wheels. I want to take them apart and refinish them but I'm stumped on the tool to use for the bolts. The only thing that looks remotely close is a torx plus socket? Or is it something I may need to contact Enkei for?

    TIA

Looks like you need a specialty fluted socket.

Can you remove the nuts without holding the bolts?

Those look an awful lot like Line head screws, which would make sense, since Enkeis are Japanese. The last time I checked, bits were very difficult to find in North America. I believe Stanley manufactures them, but it might be just as easy have a custom bit machined.

Line Head is exactly what they are. Also known as game bit for their use in game consoles.

Descriptions of heads used to turn screws and bolts, for example, Phillips and Torx.

The small sizes are common enough (ALH2 through ALH6): http://www.aliexpress.com/game-bit-driver_reviews.html

Yours is likely closer to an ALH8 though, and I can't find a tool to fit it.

Best solution I can come up with is to dremel out half the splines in a standard 12 spline socket.

Digging up the thread with what I think is a definitive answer.

I ended up with a set of 19" Phalenx wheels.
Removed one of the bolts, was not too easy.
Recalled this thread, searched for the socket to speed up the process.

This looks to be the right type of tool. Female RIBE socket, used in Nissan engines
