  • Fairly quick question regarding 5mm wheel spacers

    Does it require longer studs?

I have looked around and most honda forums say 5mm is safe without longer studs but not any longer than that.

The question I have is how many turns of a lug bolt is necessary to say that its safe?

In other words, I know I can put a 5mm spacer on and torque a lug nut down perfectly fine.

The question is, how do I know its been turned enough to be be safe?

I mean someone could theoretically tighten down a lug nut with 2 turns, but that doesnt make it safe, so how many would you think would be required to be done to think okay thats safe and not stress it.

If 'number of turns' isn't the unit of measurement I should be considering, what is?

It totally depends on several things that vary widely from car to car.

thickness of the spacer being installed(5mm in your case)
    Length of the factory stud
thickness of pad on the wheel being mounted
design of the lugnuts being used

There are pretty specific guidelines from SAE on threaded fasteners but you would need to know the above to really make any sense of them.
