  • Tire size and load advice

First off I know all about tire sizes. I'm just asking for your guys' advice from experience. I have a 1992 Subaru svx, stock tire size 225 50 16. Currently I'm running 225 40 18 to keep a stock diameter. I want to go lower, so I'm debating between getting a 215 35 18 tire OR 215 40 17. I realize they're not stock but the tire loads for both those sizes are relatively the same. I know some people with sti's run 35's just fine. The car is bagged and I daily drive it. What do I do?!

I was wondering the same thing. I wanted to drop down to 215/35 for more clearance, but will it increase the chances of bent/cracked wheels, especially if the tire load is a little less than the car's weight?

It will definitely increase it. I'm mostly wondering if there is much of a difference between 215 40 17 and 215 35 18 comfort-wise. Either one is "wrong"

        Thanks man!

And there would be a considerable difference between the comfort of the two. I ran 215/40 comfortably, and dropped down to 205/40. With 215/40, I could drive comfortably on imperfections on highways, but I can't say the same for 205/40. That's one of the things that has kept me from dropping down to 215/35
