  • SSR Welded....hardware?

So my SSR MKIII's were welded by one of the PO's, I'm in the process of restoring them and replacing old hardware. Because of caliper clearance issues, I'm thinking of using stainless button heads bolts, inserted from the rear of the rim with SS nyloc nuts on the front side...

I guess the real question is, does it really matter what hardware I use? Especially on my welded wheels...?

    Pic because race car.

Bolts could be an added safety, in the unlikely event the weld fails. I would opt for 18.8 SS, and maybe a 12pt nut.

I'm pretty sure those would have come welded from SSR.

Definitely this. 6 bolts alone is not enough to hold a wheel together safely.

Awesome thanks guys, did not know that.

I'm probably going to use 18.8 stainless hardware then. I didn't imagine it would matter much at that point, but I am new to 3 piece wheels.

Are they sandwich mount or reverse? If sandwich, use basically whatever you feel like, but if they're reverse (and the center is still removeable) use good stuff.

They're sandwich and always welded from factory. The bolts are also inserted from the rear as you say you're going to do from the factory as well. Any grade of stainless bolt/nut/washer combo should be fine, but get the bolt length right or they can look odd with it poking out too far beyond the nut.
