  • How to clean clearcoated polished lips?

What is the best method to clean polished lips with a clear coat.

I have a set of AME Fins that I am refinishing. The faces are currently in powdercoat and I would like to clean up the lips while they are out.

I believe they are clearcoated polished lips...If you look at the pic below, you can see hazing where the faces were...I know that these parts aren't really exposed, but I would like to clean them up if possible, while the faces are already off Assuming they are in fact clearcoated, I have tried polishing compound and wax...but it doesn't seem to help...

Firstly - find out if they are clearcoated or not.
If they are not clearcoated(raw) - sand(wet) and polish them.
If they are - strip the clear, then sand/polish.
    Apply clearcoat (if desired).

So there is no way of cleaning up the existing clear coat? If not I guess I will just run them as is.

You could try wet sanding(very fine grit) and buffing it, like you would car paint. Or skip the wet sand and use something like rubbing compound and swirl remover.

Just sand them...it doesn't take to long before you will see a huge difference. I did 2 LM's a few months back (after being really hesitant) and they came out awesome. Now I do my friends wheels and buy wheels to re-furb. The only way to learn is to do

strip them, have the lips professionally polished, then gloss clear powder coat (ever clear) or leave them raw polish.

you'll waste a ton of time trying other options...

Thanks for the insight guys. I will just run them as is then. You don't notice it with the faces on, it is just me being picky. And with two small kids I don't want to raw polished aluminum lol, I just don't have time to always be polishing them. I like that I can just hose off the clearcoat.
