  • Just documenting my wheel build here.

So I had finally found the wheels I wanted. 4x100 16" deep dish RSs. They are a redrill but I didn't know any better, so I bought them. Turns out they were a bad redrill and potentially unsafe. The cone seats were irregular and most were too deep into the face. plus the white was a little brighter than BMWs Alpine White, I would have liked for them to match, so I decided to go ahead and get them repaired and refinished. Just wanted to document it here in case anyone is interested. A few photos to start...

    On the car

Close up. They are in pretty great shape. The hex caps were kinda chewed up and some of the center caps were scuffed or cracked. Those will be replaced.

Dismounted tires and removed all the bolts. Whoever built these used WAY too much silicone. Baked each one for 5 minutes at 350 ant took a weighted deadblow hammer to them. One wheel had to be put back in the oven for another 5 minutes.

All taken apart. Every piece will either be new or refinished.

Wrapped the faces individually and packed up for shipping out to SpinTech in Florida to fix the bad redrill, strip and refinish to match BMWs Alpine White.

I'll keep posting pics of the progress as I have it and the finished product. They may be too nice to put on my crappy old e30. Thanks for looking.

I got word that the faces should be done and in the mail back to me next week. In the mean time, these showed up from spinfab. Polished half height hex caps. Now to find some CF centers...

Nice, look like they are solid aluminium. What do those bad boys cost?

These photos were sent by Patrick at SpinTech. The bad redrill holes were filled, re drilled again (larger), steel inserts pressed in, fresh coat of alpine white to match my E30. They should be arriving later this week or early next.

Now... Polished lips and hex caps or black chrome?

man, doesn't it seem a bit odd not to at least clean the machining burrs before paint ?
just a moment or two with a file and sandpaper to remove the sharp edges ?
