  • 2 to 3 piece wheels? Widening? Help

Hey guys I'm looking at two different sets of wheels and I can't seem to find the information I need anywhere does anyone know if you can take oz operas and make them a 3 piece wheel? I know they only come 2 piece from factory but they aren't wide enough for what I want so I was wondering if and where you could buy lips and barrels for these to make them a real 3 piece and another set of wheels I'm looking at are work vs and they are only 17s I was wondering if anyone knew where I could lips and barrels to go from 17" face to 18" diameter thanks for any help

What you're talking about can be done and is being done by a handful of folks on the forum.
The three mentioned in this post can do it I believe: http://www.stanceworks.com/forums/sh...6&postcount=11

Upsizing is fairly common. Have not seen any Operas that were turned into 3 piece.

OZ Opera IIs are two piece.
You will need to machine the back register an additional 4-5mm to get the additional mounting clearance to keep them facemounted.

I have done this with Ssr Mesh, OZ Futuras, BBS LM, SSR SP1, and a set of dpe wheels.
Just machine off the old lips and weld on the new ones.

The operas I'm looking at are two piece but I was wanoting to make them 3 piece so I would need to machine the back of the faces down to clear and do you guys know of any lips and barrels that I could buy or would I have to have someone custom make some

The way I look at it is they were engineered to be 2 piece. I would keep them 2 piece. Can you run them 3 piece? Sure you can but why risk it? If you want to ever rebuild them again, do the same process of putting them on a lathe and machining the lips apart from the barrels......... buy your new lips/barrels and weld them back together again.

It isn't expensive. My guy will weld 4 wheels for $100. It is easy work for them.

Thanks it actually sounds good when you put it like that I don't know what I misunderstood the first time lol one more thing would you happen to know where to purchase the lips and barrels? I'm sure I can find them but I'm not sure how many holes they are or anything I'm new into the real wheels world

Why would you need to machine the lips off the barrels? The Operas are 2 piece like the LM. The face is a separate unit from the barrels. To turn it into a 3 piece wouldn't be all that difficult. Machining the back register a little more would simply turn it into something like a brand new face mounted 3 piece wheel.
