Hi everyone im not sure what tires i should get on my project bug. its a 56 beetle on late fuchs 16x6 front and 16x7 rear. Im going to be pushing roughly 180hp (alot for an old beetle) and my goal is to run in the high 12's 1/4 mile. i want to run either 225 50 series R16 rear or 215 50 series R16 in the rear, what are the best street tires (not street slicks) that i could run with grip in mind? up front i want to run 165 40 series R16 this is on a 6 inch wide wheel, i know this is an uncommon size so my bigger question than the the rear tires is what tires should i run up front with grip and performance in mind? Im not very aware of what is out there so that is why i posted this in the first place. Any help would be appreciated.

Best bet is to check out the online tire vendors and compare your desired sizes to what is available and sticky.

Personally, I would recommend a wider tire up front. Regardless, you should be considering all of the common auto-x tires (very sticky even without heat in them). That means Dunlop Direzza ZII, Hankook Ventus R-S3, BF Goodrich Rival, Kumho Ecsta XS, Falken Azenis RT615K, Nitto NT-05, Bridgetone Potenza RE-11, etc.
Not only are they great tires, they tend to come in odd sizes (although maybe not oddly thin).
They won't be amazing for drag racing because of the very stiff sidewalls, but you seem to be asking for this type of tire.Last edited by BenFenner; 05-30-2014, 10:05 AM.
