  • Having issues mounting tires, need advice.

    Alright... So... Ugh.

I just got back from the tire shop and they were not able to mount my tires on my wheels. The wheels are BBS RMs, but the thing is, instead of using a true "lip", I'm using polished bbs RS barrels as my lip. They don't make 5" bbs RM lips and that's what I want/need, so I improvised.

The problem is, when they're trying to mount the wheel (both foward and reverse mount) the tire is not staying on. When trying to put the tire on, the arm pushes down on the tire, and as it spins around it pops off on the other side. They said this was because there was no "drop center" for the tire to catch onto and they couldn't get it on. I hope this makes sense, I don't know much about mounting tires. They mentioned "maybe someone can spoon it on but we can't do it". I don't know what that means.

I just got off the phone with Tom espo and he thinks he should be able to get it done, but I'm still a little nervous. He mentioned using a helper arm or something, but again I know nothing about the mounting process. A lot of time and money went into this set up, and I'd really rather the wheels on my car than having a nice coffee table.

Anybody have any advice or techniques to get these bastards rubbered up? Help me get these wheels in my car!

    Thanks guys

You have beads there so should work as far as I know, hope you get them sorted man because they are some hot fucking wheels.

The "drop center" is a must to get a tire mounted.
I heared you can take them apart, put the tire on, placed the sealant
and put the lip back on...
Not sure if this is going to work, but you can try it...

Or you maybe have some friends to help you mount the tire like this

The rm barrel/spoke combo has the drop center built into it, the narrowest part is right where the spokes are. You didn't get rid of the drop center when you changed the lips out. What size tires are you trying to fit on?

When you mount a tire, you need to put it on the wheel from an angle. If you were to try to push straight down, the tire would be too narrow to fit over the lip. The drop center is there so that once you get one side of the tire over the lip, you still will have the space to angle it so that you can get the other side over as well.

The best idea I think if you have three piece wheels would be to put the tire on the lip and then seal and bolt them together with the tire in there. That would work the best and you don't have to take it to a shop risking them messing up your wheels.

            you have a drop center

            moving on

the only way i can interpret what you said is that the tire isnt being pushed down enough intially to pop the second bead over the lip to get the tire all the way on the rim? and that when they use the arm its popping off and back over?

if this is the case. the answer is what the answer always is when thing wont go into areas they should

            LUBE!

lube the fuck out it, push the tire down futher onto the rim
then try to get top bead over the lip. looking at your rims just make sure the white side is down( normal/forward mount) it looks like the drop center is more usable that way.

also just for shits do you have valve hole/stems?

Like I said I'm just repeating what the told me. I know it has a "drop center" but apparently not enough of one to get the tire on. I'm bringing it elsewhere and seeing what they can accomplish.

Anyone so confident into trying themselves? Haha

Yes I have valves stems, they're in the barrels poking through the face.

So basically it just needs to be approached with more technique is what you're all saying?

              Edit: and lube.

yep, ive done a few mounts on these barrels and its no issue.

important info- what tire are you using? Ive had much trouble mounting my track tires on things, but my guess is that its a normal tire, and if so just lube it up a ton and make sure the tire machine has the secondary arm to put pressure on the tire.

Nitto Neogen, and I don't recall a second arm on the machine...
