  • Need help!! Hre 540 wheel barrels

i recently bought what i believe to be HRE 540 wheels. i bought them thinking that i could just re barrel them and run them on my car. well i kinda ran into a problem it looked to me as if they are an ordinary step lip but i measured the face its 17.5 inches and the outer barrel steps up to a 19 inch? Anyone know what this sorcery is lol. if anyone could help me find barrels that would be great. i tried contacting HRE they just keep redirecting me to other peoples emails.

Another problem i'm having is that i see no markings what so ever on these wheels. i dont see size, lug pattern, offset, nothing?? All the hardware is stamped with the HRE logo so i feel they are authentic.

please any feedback would be greatly appreciated

They're definitely HRE 540. Early models were engraved on the back pad with "HRE", the order number, date, and initials of the worker.

Not all wheels were marked though. Only 2 of the 4 in my set were engraved, so I don't find it unusual yours aren't marked.

It appears you have a standard 19" step lip HRE 540. A 540R would have used a flat lip and larger center. ARS (http://www.americanrim.com/) is the supplier of these parts, and most 3 piece wheel builders in the U.S. use them.

At 17.5", I believe you're measuring the overall face diameter, and that's the confusion. The center bore of the barrel is what you need to know. Or just tell them it's a 19" step lip... they'll know. Independent Wheel probably also has what you need at a better price (http://www.independentwheel.com/prod...-wheel-halves/).

17.5 sounds about right. I have a of 19" stepped lipped HRE's but have never measure the face. If you think about it though, a face of an 18" reverse lip wheel will not measure to the full 18's". It has to be smaller to accommodate for the lip and barrel. You'll be fine ordering standard 19" stepped lips. I'd be interested in your old lips if you ever decide to sell.
