Running a 205/50/17R. Really need to get winter tires! Not sure what would give me more traction or would they essentially grip the same: a winter tire in that size or spending more $ for two smaller steel wheels(15"or16") and a taller 215/60 etc?? Anyone have any experience? The lower northeast here gets cold, slushy, freezing rain, etc.

205-45 falken 512 on 8.5 during many a winter storm and I loved them some of the best tires I've run in the snowy north east. I had a set of 15 steelies I forget exactly what the size was, stock mk4 jetta base wheels something like a 195-60-15 with all seasons and they sucked eggs. Last year with my old s2k I spent half a winter on super aggressive studded snows and they were so sketchy I put my stock ap2 wheels with summer tires on and they were way better. Only issue I ever had was we had a freak October snow storm I was still at summer ride height. 4 inches of snow and 1/2 an inch from my bumper to the ground made for a real bad snow plow situation.

Thanks guys. Skills I have. Wife, nah lol. There's regular stock 205/50-17 that are low pro's too; falken. That are sporty n slick/flat tread pattern in the middle. So the slightest incline it's hard as shit to get long from a stop. And the typical slide to the right towards the curb as she's trying to get going.

Got caught out with those last week by accident. Wasn't a fun ride home!
