  • Safety Concern w/ Custom 3 Piece

    Hi all,

How safe can wheels that were originally one piece, converted into three actually be? I have some ideas in mind, but am worried about a wheel splitting apart or cracking while I'm on the highway.

    Here are some examples?

all depends on the design of the wheel, the stress points, and the thickness of the wheel after it is machined into a "bolt shelf".. there is no solid one fits all answer here

the ronal you post up is a 3 piece wheel btw

I was just looking for the gist, but that does bring me closer to an answer. I'm just confused on how people hand off wheels to be made into custom three piece without thinking about factors such as stress points.

The structure must be well thought out and you have to remember that not all wheels are good for modification.

weve done a few sets as test projects, and some make the cut some dont. We structurally test a single face to see how it will hold up to certain stresses once its cut and machined.

You will see what I do with the ones that didnt make the cut early next year when we kick off the small goods line...

but to get back on track, most faces can not be cut and assembled into a 3 piece wheel safely. they can be assembled and made to "look legit" but there is a lot more to it than that.
