  • How do you store your rims/wheels?

Sooo, how do you do it...

I'm trying to construct a shelf for my rims, and need some ideas..,

because my 14(?) sets take up a little bit too much space in my garage...

Feel free to help me out

use the wheels themselves as shelf supports.
2 wheels on the ground, then set a plank on them between the tire beads. cut and screw down wood wedges to the planks so things don't roll. then 2 more wheels on that, more wedges etc. go as high as you dare.
I think you can get up to a 2x10 from a lumber yard.

I was trying to draw something up in paint but I suck with that shit. Do this, but use 2x4's and angle the planks that the tires sit on 45*. It's what is on the walls of most service stations.
This isn't my image, I just googled it.

that doesn't really show them off very well though.

14 sets of wheels ? without tires on them ? that would make alot of shelving.

I can't use themself as a shelf because their is a lot people walk by the shelf...

The shelfs in the link woun't walk for me either.., the door kinda swings along the inside of

          the wall...

          14 sets, 12 without, 2 with tires...
          1x 14"
          2x 15"
          5x 16"
          3x 17"
          3x 18"

So i came up with a design like this.

          (Amazing paint skills right there...)
          High: 270cm/~106"
          Wide: 180cm/~71"
          Deep: 50cm/~20"

          Black: Shelf itself
          Red: Rest for the rims
          Blue: Rim

Gonna buy some wood, and try to buid it, we'll see...
I'll try to make a "blueprint" and post it here.

            Maybe something like this?
Constructed with Wood with dimension: 45x95mm (2x4")
Dont forget to put a "X" of some sort in the back of the shelf, since it will most likely be very wibbly-wobbly without it.
As you can see it is possible to have varied width on the shelves simply by putting one of the red planks further in when it's being assembled.

Hope it's of some use for your project.

                You're welcome!

                Just a thought:
If you make the rack with "legs" as on the sketch I drew, you might have room to store your garage jack underneath the wheelrack.

You could also make the wheel supports adjustable so you don't have to worry about one shelf only supporting 14s.
