Noob Question: Upsizing wheels...other than barrels, what else is involved??

Ok, I am considering buying some Style 5s for my E39. I know the most common ones to get would be the OEM 17 inchers. So I was wondering, what is involved in converting them in 18s? I would like to do 18x9 in front and 18x10.5 in the rear. How much am I looking at to do something like this....at least in materials as I will attempt to do the labor myself at home?

Does anyone have pics of any upsized Style 5s on their car?
