  • Shims for my Audi

Now before i get branded as a noob for wanting shims on an IRS car, let me plead my case.

Ever since i lowered the car i have never been able to get the toe into spec. and its been causing me a sh!tload of damage chopping up my rear tires. So i was pondering the Idea of running toe shims to get my alignment on point just to save me money on tires.

I remember someone from CanIBeat did this on their MKIV GLI, but i know they are much more common for those cars rather than mine.

So if anyone knows where to point me in the right direction Ill buy you a 6 pack.

What model audi do you have? Only solid beam rear axles need shims toadjust camber/toe. All others have camber and toe essentric bolts. I got a fwd 2006 audi a3, lowered on ksport coilovers and got all camber/caster/toe all in spec.... let me know what car you have. I can check our alignment computer so see what adjustments you have....

I know what i have, i have toe and camber adjustment in the rear, problem is my toe adjustment is maxed out positive and i still have way too much negative toe, so much so that it chops up the tire.

but if you wish i have a 2007 audi a4 2.0t fwd, lowered on stasis SS (koni) suspension.

are you running alot of negative camber? im guessing by positive toe you mean toe out? do you know the exact numbers youre getting in the rear? if anything, youd have to find an aftermarket toe rod for more adjustability...

When I aligned it, I put the camber to stock spec and the toe was toe in. IIRC about -0.31 when 'spec' limit is about -0.14. As far as i am concerned the toe adjustment in the rear is only a bolt with an offset bushing. and it is maxed out. Since then I changed the camber to ~ -3.5 degrees by eyeballing it. not an a rack.

                You need this:
                http://www.purems.com/products/product.php/II=2940
the A4 suspension gains camber as you lower it (front) and you should be around -2.5 or a little bit more if the car is hammered. There is PLENTY of toe adjustment so maybe take it somewhere else if they are telling you differently. With proper toe settings tire wear is still bad but manageable.

Jason thanks for the info, but its not the front im having problems with, since I already have those arms (love them too). The rear is where my problem is, not so much camber but the toe bolt is maxed out positive or toe out, and i still have toe in.

Got around to looking at the adjustments for you car on out alignment computer. And luckily a b6 fwd audi came in for some work so I was able to get a better look at where each adjustment is... camber essentric bolt is on the upper arm closer to the knuckle, and toe essentric bolt is on lower control arm forward mount. Do you know how far out (in rather) you are?

I believe the bolt is maxed out and the wheel is -0.31 (if that mkes sense) imnot exactly sure but that a number that i remember from the alignment

its usually never zero. The drag of the tires causes them to toe positive so you put a little negative in there so that when its rolling it zeros out
