  • Newb Fitment

Morning guys & gals. Just picked up a new set of rims and was wondering what would give me a mild stretch but still maintain daily driveability...

    Front: 18x8.5 +30
    Rear: 18x9.5 +25

    My thoughts were a 225/40 in front and a 235/40 in rear...thoughts?

any information/pics are welcome! Thanks in advance

    For the stretch

    tyrestretch.com

As for daily driveability, do you mean as far as curbing your wheels etc or comfort? If it's the former that depends totally on driving skill and nothing else, if you are prone to curb your wheels any stretch that exposes the lip of the rim will be damaged. If it's the latter I noticed having stretch doesn't make as much difference as spring rates needed to run fitment that requires tyre stretch. Tyre pressure imo also makes more of a difference than stretch vs proper sized tyres.

But saying that, recommended tyre sizes on wheels are a little more forgiving compared to stretched tyres over bumps/cracks etc...

I mean more so as wear and tear on the tires. It seems that stretched tires are just as safe as running regular fitted tires.

Basically are stretched tires safe to drive daily on or for long distances?

Im new to the stanced scene, since there doesnt seem to be a big following in Chicago (as far as I know) aso its all a learning curve at the moment with fitment and stretching.

I have used tyrestretch.com and from it seems the tires I have chosen will give me a slight stretch but its hard to tell what itll actually look like.

I've logged 15k+ miles with 205/40's on 8 and 9" wheels with 0 issues. (knocks on wood)

Went from NY to CT to GA and back with no issues. Just made sure to check pressures every few hundred miles. I run my tires at 45psi. Max (written on the sidewall) is 50psi. Tire pressure will change about 1 psi for every 10* temp change.

            Thanks!

now as for stretching, I want a mild one could I achieve this with a 225 on a 8.5" and a 235 on a 9.5" inch both having 40 sidewalls? Or should I drop down to 215 and 225?

Im gonna be putting these on KlutchRepubliks SL5 if that make any difference.

              depending on tire, i recommend 205 on an 8.5 and a 215 on a 9.5.

I was gonna try and stick with falken's I hear good things about their tires when it comes to stretching. But I think a 205 and a 215 might be a little much for me.

rarely any stretch on the front, rears are a decent stretch.

PSI on stretched is always something I was curious about.. I'm running mine at 35psi right now, that's what Hyundai recommends for my car, but obviously I'm not running stock specs. Am I better off just staying at 35 or should I go higher, based on the tires limit?

Sorry for thread jacking, but I figured this would be useful info to have in here anyway

When automakers put those recommendations on the door, they take into the weight of the car, tire size, and probably a bunch of other crazy stuff. Those pressures on the inside of the door are for stock wheels and tires. Engineers determine them so you could a good ride with even tire wear, gas mileage, etc...

Now, with that said, run whatever you're comfortable with. I'm assuming you have some decent fitment and running a smidge or so of negative camber, which is going to wear the tire differently than a stock suspension/tire combo as it is, so it doesn't really hurt to go above those number.

I run at 45 with the hope if I hit an astray pothole or something the wheels won't be damaged. That's just me though. Some people run a higher PSI if they are running a lot of stretch, it helps keep the beads sealed.

Reading through that I kinda rambled, but I hope that helps you out.

I dailyed a 195/40 and 215/40 on 17x8.5 and 17x9.5 for a year in MA and was fine. My tires could only handle up to 42 psi so that's what I run.

I think im gonna run 215/40 and 225/40 federal ss595's. They seem to have a good stretch. This setup looks to be a good mild/minimal stretch
