  • 195-50- r15 or 205-50-r15 on 9.5 inch wheel

I am currently rebuilding a set of BBS RMs and am questioning what size tires to run in the rear. The fronts will be 15x8.5 with 195-45 federal ss-595, but I dont know what to run in the rear.

The rear specs will be 15x9.5 et-5 and will be going on my e30. I havent ever seen this aggressive of a setup on an e30 with good pictures or specs on they tires. I originally wanted 205-45s, but they are discontinued and couldnt find any sets. So that leads me to where I am at now, contemplating between the 195-50s and 205-50s. I will be going with falken 512s regardless.

Now I wanted to know if anyone has anything bad to say about a 195-50 on a 9.5 inch wheel, or any pictures of either setup, doesnt matter what tire is on them. I am just afraid that a 205-50 will be too meaty and a fender roll and small pull will not be enough, and that it will raise the rear up so much and will give me alot of rake. Any input is appreciated, especially pictures. Help a brotha out.

You posted this yesterday at 5:30 pm and bumped it 13 hours later?

      Sweet Jesus.

      Read the sticky's above.

      Here is this:

Home of the worlds largest collection of Tyre Stretch and Stance photos

I looked and they do have pics of 195/50's on a 15x9.5

      Good luck.

Also do you not look at the stickies? They are there for a reason

ive looked at the stickies, for one if there is anything in there about it when ive google searched it it would have come up. Secondly i do not feel like searching through hundreds of posts just to find some idiot say that is alot of stretch or your going to need a cheetah to get that on. And thirdly, I have looked on TyreStretch, and frankly that doesnt look like a 195-50, more like a 195-45, which is where I am at now, asking others if they have this setup, and their opinions on safety and longevity, because it is my daily driver on the shitty PA roads.

Now thank you for completely not answering the question and the not so relevant stickied thread.

NOW, BECAUSE I SEEM TO HAVE COME OFF WRONG, I AM NOT LOOKING FOR WHAT TIRE SIZES I CAN RUN. I KNOW THEY WILL BOTH WORK I AM SIMPLY JUST HERE TO ASK OPINIONS FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE RUN EITHER AND GET A LIST OF PROS AND CONS BEFORE I GO AND BUY TIRES THAT I DONT LIKE THE LOOK OF.

Did everyone hear that now that Im yelling? Thank you

            So if you're running 195/45 on a 8.5 just run a 205/45 for a 9.5.

Lol the "safety" for stretching tires

Ok, maybe safety wasnt the correct word to use, but I daily this car on Pennsylvania roads, so I would like as little risk of the bead popping off, or other dumb shit happening while driving. And did you even read the original post? 205-45 would be the ideal tire size, I already know that, but if you read the original post you would have read that they are no longer available to buy.

Which brings me to my search for people who actually have experience with the two sizes of tire on a 15x9.5 inch wheel. Like I said in the last post on here, I actually bolded it for the people who have difficulty reading, which you have proved twice already. I do not want to know what size I should run, I am asking for information about both setups on a 15x9.5 inch wheel, and some pros and cons of both.

Don't take it personally, there are a couple of people here who would rather troll the tire forums all day instead of helping people.

                You should run the 205/50.

Im not taking it personally, and yeah I know there are alot of trolls on here, but also alot of people that know what theyre talking about. After hours of scrolling through a few forums Ive found someone who ran the same size wheel as I will be running with a 205-50 on an e30, but had to radius, or cut away some of his fender. I am not willing to do this, and will be using a fender roller to roll and pull slightly my fenders.

When you recommend the 205-50 are you speaking out of experience, or what would be your reasoning? They are within 1/4 inch of each other diameter wise, and are still bigger than the previous tires I was running.

I don't know what you'll have to do to the fenders but you're running staggered width, so why would you run the same width tire front and rear?

I heard, call me an asshole for pointing out, all the information you need can be found using the following

                      - existing wheel specs

                      - search functions (google + forums)

                      - willtheyfit.com

                      - tyrestretch.com

                      one of these

                      and one of these

Although I've realised that some people lack the last one and they're hard to find/modify to work properly...

I'm going to be that guy who advises against this. Because I live a bit north of Pittsburgh. Penndot sucks complete ass with road repairs. BUT, it's not my place to get angry and tell you what to do. Best of luck.

I will be running the same width tire but with a bigger sidewall. And the only reason for running a smaller size rear tire would be because of fender clearance and the fact that I do not want to hack up my fenders. Like I said in the original post 205-45s would be ideal but with the bigger sidewall they are significantly beefier and would be a tough fit.

Not calling you an asshole at all, but I did do a great deal of searching google and I also checked tyrestretch.com and willtheyfit.com. Which is why I came here, to find some people who actually have experience with either setup. It is not often that people run 15x9.5 wheels so that is where most of my difficulty is coming from.

                            That is a weird size.

I'm sure your roads in PA suck, but roads suck everywhere. The roads here in central NY really aren't all that great either. I'm just saying, it's pretty hard to get beads to unseat. I used to do tires when I worked in a shop. Even with all the air out of the tires sometimes it would be a bitch to get the beads to unseat. If you're running 40 PSI (I run 45) I really don't think you will have an issue. I've logged about 15k miles so far with stretched tires with 0 issues (knocks on wood).

With that said, I would go 205/50. I'm running a 205/40 on my 9's and it's pretty good stretch. 195/50 on a 9.5"wheel would be a pretty crazy stretch IMO. Plus I think a 205/50 would look more proportional with your front set-up as well.

Thanks for your opinion and information. I used to have 165-45s on 15x8.5 and the tires were like rubber bands. It wasnt my choice of size, bought the wheels like that and soon got new tires. I have seen pictures of 205-50s on a passat, but couldnt get any good pictures about how tall the sidewall was and how much stretch was actually there.

I have also seen pictures of a 195-50 on a 15x9.5 as well and again couldnt get solid pictures. Both sizes were falken 512s which I know stretch well, but also run thin.

After your information I am no longer really worried about the safety because I check tire pressure often, but now it comes down to whatever will fit well inside my fenders. I can do a good roll and however much pull I can get with a fender roller, but will not cut my fenders up because I cannot afford a paint job and college. Now I need the help of people who have experience with e30s to shed some light onto the situation.
