  • Potential BBS RS Build

I regret selling the set of BBS RS I had on the R32. Should've never sold them. They were beautiful wheels, and the guy who built them regrets selling them too. We both had MkV R32s. The wheels ended up in Japan and are now on Anju's Golf R. Despite generous offers on my part to him, he intends to keep the wheels for the time being.

I like my Rotiform ROCs (they're for sale btw), but I really want to run BBS RS once again. I've never built a set of wheels myself, so this thread represents more of a feeler than anything. I've sent e-mails to Rotiform and Memoryfab about this as well, but for the sake of it I figured I'd test the waters here and get input. I've never built a set of wheels myself and I think that it'd be much more rewarding if I did it myself, that goes without saying though.

Anyway, I want my new set to be identical (or as close as possible) to my previous set. The specs on the previous set were as follows:
    • 5x112 (but open to running 5x114.3 with wobbles)
    • Front - 17x9.5 with a 7" barrel and 2" lip
    • Rear - 17x10 wit a 7" barrel and a 2.5" lip
    • Offsets we were never really sure of but we estimate that the fronts were around et30 and the rears around et28.

Never wrote down what model the faces were. I've asked the current owner of the wheels to look, but he lives in Japan.

Obviously I would need to source some BBS RS faces that clear big brakes on the Golf R. I'd also need four 7" barrels and the 2" and 2.5" lips. I'd appreciate it if you guys could point me in the right direction with respect to where I could source these parts. If memoryfab and/or Rotiform are my best bet, that's I guess where I'll begin.

I want to start this project soon so that they'll be ready by H2O.

^ i agree, although squeezing an 11 out back with that offset may be nearly impossible.

^ I don't agree with them. Sounds like you know exactly what you want and you should definitely go witha custom order tailored to your specs if you're going to be dropping that kind of money. I'd go with Memoryfab, and I hear Rotiform is no longer offering custom lips/barrels due to supplier issues (very recently actually).

Besides, if you bought someone elses built RS's, then you're getting 'their' wheels. They'll always be theirs in a sense, and personally I have had great satisfaction building my own wheels. It is a pretty involved process though, so be sure to get a list of everything you might need and costs. It can get rather expensive quick.

        Good luck!

Those wheels were stunning I can see why you would want to build another set.

17" RS faces are much harder to come by than their 16" counterpart. There are sets of 16" RS on VR wheels all the time. You will most likely have to buy a complete set of wheels, break them down, sell off the remaining lips/barrels and then keep the faces for your build. Check vortex classifieds though, I have seen faces on there from time to time. Check out spinfab.net, the guy is on here his username is 1badg35. (I think) He does custom stuff all the time and I think he's now selling the lips/barrels for RS conversions. VR wheels also sells the lips/barrels but I believe theirs only do 17-18 not 16-18.

Edit: I am an idiot, didn't see that you wanted to build a set of 17's. It's much easier in that case, just find a set of 17" RS and then order the lips and barrels (way more selection for this because it's not a step lip) Tunershop, Titanium Touch, Memoryfab, VR, etc all sell lips that work for RS
