  • Banding/Welding 1 PIECE Wheels

I have a solid BMW Style 40 Wheel, Also known as Roadster Wheels.

They are 17x9 +8 all around & I was looking to weld/band them to 17x10 (negative offset) and 17x11 (negative offset) but I've called Rotiform and they don't weld/band solid one piece wheels.

Anyone know of anyone that would, in California?

I'm not sure of wheel places in Cali but I know Weldcraft wheels out of Michigan would be able to do what you're looking to have done. I have seen their work on the internets and it looks like quality stuff. I plan to have 2 of my wheels done by them in the future.

I think they charge around $250 a wheel.

^^^^ What he said.. I don't remember it costing 225 per wheel, but my quote was for a 15" steel wheel

You can do it with just about anything really.

Hooeybrow or however it's spelled with the awesome Cavi had his done by Weldcraft and they look fantastic.

I doubt there's any safe way to band a style 40 to negative offsets. AFAIK like most/all factory wheels they are front mounted meaning you can widen them from the inside which is just retarded for the money.

Steel wheels and 2 piece wheels are different. For 2 piece bolted wheels (face unbolts to a flanged barrel) you need to machine the face to work in a 3 piece config and use custom barrels (inners and outers) or cut and machine the inner barrel off and use a custom outer, or of course just replace the entire 1 piece barrel. Steel wheels can be banded in the front or the back as well as being able to move the centers to change the offset.

Yes but probably only on the inside so same lip size and higher offset. You might as well go 3 piece or use custom hoops to stay 2 piece.

Thanks for the info, I'd be looking at widening them to the inside, but that's good to keep in mind.

Look up the Fluid Motorunion M Roadster. Same wheels. The rear wheels were widened at the lip for negative offset.

Ah yeah I forgot about FMU's roadster. You can widen the rears but very unlikely you can widen the fronts, 17x8 +40 or whatever they are, on the outside. They used factory rears up front IIRC. Maybe FMU will chime in.

                          True.

Depending on the style of the 2 piece wheel you can keep it 2 piece and still do a bigger lip. That's what hoeywbrow did with his and I plan to do with mine.

They cut the lip off and then add the band to make them wider. After welding, they clean up the welds on the lip so you can polish them.

Here are his wheels to give you an idea. You can see where they cut the lips off and welded in extra material:

The part of the lip you see is still flat so after polishing you'd never even know they were widened.
