  • Tire Fitment (Not Very Stretched)

I could use a tire fit check before I order tires for my new wheels, particularly for the fronts.

    Rear:
17x10.5" wheel, 315/35R17 drag radials. That's pretty much set in stone, and I can use all the traction I can get. IRS bolts will be ground down and the quarters are already rolled so they will fit just fine.

    Front:
17x9" wheel, looking at either a 255/40R17 or 255/45R17 tire. I'm looking at the 255 not so much for stretch but to maximize clearance that I really need. The 45 series is closer in diameter to the rear wheel, but it's slightly larger than the rear diameter, at least based on calculations. ABS errors are not a concern as the ABS system is how shall we say...not functional.

Anyone ever run either of the front combinations? I'm sure it's a slim chance since most prefer to stretch them far more than that.

    Any input is helpful.

What are you trying to gain from making this thread, Just ideas, photos of the setup or feedback?
Either way, i used to run the 17x9 and a 255/40-17. And i loved it. I noticed you typed that you wanted a 255 on a 9 not for the stretch just for clearance, tho on my setup it was not stretched at all.

Here is a picture of it, its the rear wheels.

Cant really remember what brand they are, think they were goodyears. Had plenty of traction for my awesome power level of 150bhp

      ^Those are Goodyear F1 GS-D3's.

255/40R17's would be a better choice, in my opinion. That's the same sized tire I'll be using on my E36 front and back on a 17x8.5" wheel.

That looks great. That's actually waaaaay less stretch than I was expecting. I had figured there would be a little stretch, but that looks almost like stock fitment.

The only reason I was concerned is the stock 03 Cobra tires on those wheels is a 275, so I figured a 255 would have a little stretch to it. Guess not.

And traction is of no concern for the front tires, the rears do the heavy lifting, and they're getting some Toyo Proxes TQ DRs. That should handle some clutch dumps from 550 ft-lb no problem.
