  • Style 5 lip polishing

I think I see what my issue is but I figured I'd ask for others opinions to see if my thoughts are correct.

How my lips looked a few days ago maybe 4-5 passes with metal polish ago.

how they look now. Maybe a little better.

What I am thinking is I didn't sand the grooves in the lips enough to make them smooth before starting the polishing process. Is that what others would think?

My goal is to have as much of a polish as my what brought my mom's denali wheels back to today. They were tarnished a little and now look awesome

This may be a silly question but is the factory clear still on the lips?

Its because you did not sand them enough.

Ok I figured that. So I guess I will sand them down again. Will they be quicker to polish out once I sand them back down?

Also what grit should I use because I have a ton laying around from when I sanded them initially

Or if I keep polishing and taking off material will it eventually get smooth?

Anyone? I was going to try to start on it tonight and don't want to scratch the wheels up worse than needed unless I should start with the roughest sand paper

you need to sand in progressive steps, and sand enough to remove the scratches from each previous step

so for instance I usually sand like this for a good finish if I'm going from a painted finish to polished finish

                100-220-400-600-800-1000-1200-1500 grit

then metal polish on a polishing pad and a dremel/drill etc

works well for me so far

that's only hand polished, still need to use a polishing pad

I got mine too this shine by hand sanding and hand polishing.

here is a thread on how i did it.

The problem is you didn't sand them. You can see the lines running parallel with the lip, that is because it is brushed.

Here take a look, it takes a ton of time sanding, buffing and polishing to get them to look mirror finished.
