  • So im new to this... what tire size to run? (Stancing my mustang)

17x9 front, 17x10.5 rear. The recommended size iw 315 for the rear and 275 for the front, but obviously none of us are fans of "Recommended" size and thats why we're all here

But i dont know what size tire to stretch over them.... I dont knwo what width because of little clearance between the coilovers, and once i roll my fender i dont know if i can clear that either...

Also, the height my car is curretly at is perfect for my daily driving. So i dont want to raise/lower it much by changing the wheel/tire size so what profile should i run to keep the height its at now? Tire size is 225/60/16 all the way around right now, maxed out on coilovers.

Height its at now with current wheels :

Rear wheels, 17x10.5 (on stock suspension for these pictures)

Front wheels, heres where I forsee most of my problems (after coilovers installed, but still jacked up)

Even though i just joined, i've already checked the "tire fitment database" thread and i;ve browsed tyrestretch.com (since they redesigned their website, its hard as hell to navigate so it didnt help much) so i just thought it would be a good idea to post pictures and ask you guys. I hope someone can throw me a tire size to run for both wheels. I dont think i need intense stretch, but at the same time i dont want a baloon 315 Cobra drag looking tire since im trying to keep my low haha. If you guys would give me input and lead me into the right direction it would be greatly appreciated!

Haha not too many mustangs to get tire specs from. Try out willtheyfit.com, it'll give ya a lot better info then I would be able to give ya. Hopefully that helps

I understand what your going through, choosing tire size is very hard when you have a mustang. There are not many mustang guys in the stance scene to provide advice lol.

First question, do you want stance/stretch similar to this guy? http://www.stanceworks.com/forums/sh...t=mustang+poke

Personally I think a 255/40 tire would look pretty good on the rear. Maybe a 215/45 in the front. Keep in mind these tire sizes will drop the car an extra 20mm but also create more gap between the tire and fender. A 255/45 and 215/50 would not change the height but might look a little meaty.

225/40 or 215/45 up front on the 9"s. Run a 245/40 out back on the 10.5"s.

When I had Termi reps on my Starion - Which are the same specs as your ZR Deep-Dish Cobras, 17x9" +24 and 17x10.5" +27 - I had 225/45s up front and 245/40s out back. After doing that I'd recommend the lower-profile 225/40s or even 215/45s up front for stretch that matches the back.

Hope this gives you an idea of the stretch. I personally think this would look great on a New Edge SN95 like yours.

          Lower it first.

Then order tires according to what you can fit.

Where he's at now on the 16"s will be about where he wants to start with the 17"s.

Definitely a lack of new edge guys here. A few foxes and plenty of S197s, but not much for the SN95 crowd.

Those Cobras look good. Can't wait to get tires for mine.

I personally think the 215s up front would be a bit extreme, at least for my tastes. I'd go in the 225-255 range up front, 255-275 out back. I am going to run the 255s up front, and either a 295 or 315 out back. Of course I don't want any stretch out back, I want traction to cope with the 550 ft-lb.

It's funny because you almost need to go down to 255s or smaller up front to keep from rubbing. I know I had problems even with my 245s on a 8" rim rubbing harnesses and at full lock. Out back you might need to ditch the quad shocks (SRA) or get low-pro IRS bolts (IRS), and roll the quarter to fit.

And as always, especially with rear tires, watch out for nominal size versus actual size. A 275 width tire from one manufacturer may be the same width as a 315 from another. I know Nitto is notorious for running narrow.
I Have No Idea What I'm Doing

Lower it first clearly. Because they look flush as is and the lip of the wheel is a foot lower than the fender. When you lower it, you'll gain negative camber and you're probably not going to even need stretch as those are normal wheel sizes for mustangs..

My car is lowered now! the first grouping of pics are of it lowered... i stated that when i was test fitting the wheels, i still had stock suspension when i test fitted the rears, and on the fronts its still jacked up to those pictures...

ANyways, thanks for the advice! But upon doing more research, i might run across another dilemma:

I wanna do 225/45 on the 17x9 and 275/40 on the rears..

Only because i cant afford to lower it any more due to my exhaust already being too low to the ground, and those sizes are smaller than my stock setup so naturally that will lower the car a tad more... But if i raise it back up to the height its at now after putting the new setup on, wouldnt it look retarded having it raised thus causing more gap between the wheels?

Would spacers fix that problem or would running a slightly larger tire? I dont want to have a stretched smaller tire, but end up having a gap due to having to raise it back up from a smaller than stock wheel/tire combination

But at the same time i dont want to have a fat tire and end up rubbing the rolled fender/spring haha

Can you reload your front pic, it's not working and I'd like to see a 225/45 on a 9....also any of the car in full to compare how the 225/45 and the 245/40 looked together?

I'm soon to be in the same position, although not for a Mustang, but a similar sized car that's on a 225/60/15 stock. I'm going to build my wheels to be either a 9.5 and 10 or a 9 and 10.5 and I'm struggling with tyre sizes. I don't want anything too thin in the sidewall, but I don't want them too meaty either. This is my first large car and I've got sizes sussed on my smaller cars, just this one's giving me grief.

I was thinking either a 215/45 or 225/45 up front on the 9 or 9.5 and either a 235/45 or 245/40 or 255/40 on the rear 10 or 10.5 as all those sizes are close to the stock size but a little smaller.

17s on a Mustang will look too small. Better go with a 19 inch wheel if you wanna 'stance' it out.

Yeah when I get home I'll re-host it. Here's a couple from my Facebook of the whole car:

I personally think the 225/45 would look better on a 9.5" wheel, the stretch would closer match the rear. Else a 215/45 would look better on a 9". But again, that's my personal preference.

I agree with your last thoughts.....in that case if I was to go a 225/45 front, then the 255/40 rear would match better, or as you said 215/45 and 245/40. The front tyre on yours look a little taller than the rear, even though they are close, it's the stretch difference that throws it off. Thanks for those pics! Tyrestretch is a great site for referencing stretch, but you never get to see the whole car, and seeing pics like yours helps with the full car with front and rear visible.

Hmm with a 215/45/17 front and 275/40/17 rear it wouldnt look right?

Would a 255/40 in the rear would match instead of a 275/40 back there?

I was thinking the sumitomo 275/40 and the Falken 512 up front... i know Sumitomo runs small so its probably really a 265 tire (i know the sumitomo 315 is equal to a nitto 295, according to the msutang forum that im on) and probably Falken 512 up front or should I go falken 512 all the way around?

Geez i feel like im asking so many questions haha

Personally, I like the same brand/tread front and rear, but whatever works I suppose.....just so long as the tread patterns aren't way off and super different looking.
