  • Since I have wasted a whole work day searching...need stretchy 512 replacement.

Man, I have been all over this topic all day and since Falken 512s can no longer be found, I need to find a 205/40/17 8J tire that with fit like a 512 would have.

    Nankang NS1?
    Federal 595?
    Other suggestions?

All the Falkens seem to be wide now. Please help a brotha out. I have 6 freshly refinished Style 5's sitting on my garage floor that need shoes.

don't know of anything that stretches like a 512 which is probably a good thing, because the reason it stretched so well was poor construction. 512s are nice to look at but one of the worst when it came to grip and durability.

Federal 595s run 1-2 sizes larger than 512s, so that's probably not what you're looking for unless you do 195/40.

Hrmmm. So I might as well go with the Falken 452 or 912 I suppose. I read the 912 was the replacement for the 512 FWIW.

I wouldn't use any Falken product. I've had experience with 512s sidewalls delaminating and ST115s actually blow a cord and separate in two. I had some 912s that lasted okay, but its still not a great tire.

The 912 runs bigger than the 512. But like I said, nothing is going to stretch like a 512.

BTW, I have run Falkens like a mofo on my wife's SUVs and they are solid as hell (in a good way)...but that is apples and oranges.

Honestly, it seems the manufacturers are catching on to "stretch" and ridding themselves of the liability. It aint such a big deal for the guys that run big and wide, but the smaller you get, the less choices you have.

                This just in...

As per Falken, the 452 is no longer available for order. It has been replaced with the 453. Dimensionally they tell me the 453 will be the same as the 452, they just ditched the directional tread pattern for an all season pattern. I guess that helps with rotation and such. I just ordered a set in 205/40/17. It seems Falken is making less and less of their tires in this size. We'll see what happens.

I just remembered your thread about coilovers. Why even ask for advice if you're not going to take it? I can't help but think a non-directional all-season from Falken was not the best choice here.

Well, as far as coils go, you said you were running BC and were happy with them. Advice taken. I didn't see the need to bust an extra $600 on Broadway for my application. As far as the tires, no advice was given other than what not to buy, so I figured I would just take a shot in the dark.

Instead of trying to shoot me down you could have just suggested something with far less key strokes. But I guess that's not the point.

And there you have it. That is about all the stretch I can expect to get on an 17x8 without ordering some crazy tire size from the moon. I have no problem with the tread pattern. I am building a cruiser, not a race car.

Fusion ZRi's stretch almost the same as a 512, you must not have searched very hard because I know I've said that multiple times on here. Although I've heard that they changed the construction of the ZRi recently and they don't stretch as well anymore.

And I have nothing but praise for Falkens, the 512's were one of my favorite tires.

I just bought 912's and they don't stretch that well imo. I have a 205/45 on a 9" wheel and it looks pretty average. I don't know if this is just me expecting a 205 on a 9 to be crazy or the tire sucks for stretching.
