Painting before polish?

I have a set of wheels that I want to refinish and Ive polished wheels before but wanted to get an opinion. The wheels are in rough shape and I want to paint the center white and leave the lip polished but wanted to know which order do you think I should do first? Should I paint the middle first and over spray a little on the lips and then polish the lips or should I polish lips first and then spray centers. I feel like there would be a sharp edge between paint and polished lips if polished first then painted.

I plan on spray bombing them.

I feel if I was to paint wheels first I would be able to sand after primer, then sand after paint and clear it. Then polish lips.

I would polish first, then mask off the polished lips and paint the centers.
those are nice rims and will come out sweet. I used Duplicolor brake caliper paint. after the final coat sand it to like 600 and polish with Flitz

I say polish first because when you polish you need to wet sand and polishing can be messy and could damage the paint you do on the spokes.

the polishing compound I used on the paint smooths out the edge of the paint after you peel tape on the polished lips.

I agree. I would polish first and then paint the centers. The other thing is you could end up sanding your newly painted centers by accident when doing the lips.
