  • Techniques and solutions for cleaning wheels..

I did a search here and i was a bit surprised no ones started this kind of thread. We all pay a pretty penny for our wheels, and more than half the time sell them to another person who loves wheels as well. So it is best to keep them in immaculate conditions.. this thread is to share what kind of tools, and solutions you guys use for your wheels. Some are specified to aluminum, some are specified for painted, while others are too strong and will actually cause hazing or eat a clear coat. So go ahead and share your tips and feedback..

I had gotten some water spots on my bbs' a while back and was told by some old guy to use hot water. heated up some water in a pot and it took care of the problem.

Ive used P21S before, great product but i have a little trigger finger so i go overload on the spray and $20 a bottle everytime i wash the wheels was too much.. this stuff is also great, plus its a bigger bottle than P21S http://www.blackmagicshine.com/produ...-wheel-cleaner its also PH balanced to be safe on aluminum..

I use P21s and a boar hair brush that I got from detailersdomain.com I think

Then I seal with autobahn wheel wax

I litterally hold off on cleaning wheels until shows, I **** POLISHING

But seriously, I use a fine steel wool on my no finish polished lips on my braids, and then wipe off with a damp rag, makes the polishing alot easier than going to town with mother's mag polish.

I'm an engineer by day, and a auto detailer by night and weekends. lol

I solely use P21S Gel Wheel Cleaner. Its safe for all wheels typs and finishes. And it WORKS!! Wet the wheels, spray on and agitate with various brushes, and you're golden.

I would not wait to clean wheels until show time, (unless you show every week) And definitely not in hot climates (brake dust is corrosive, and will pit and ruin your wheels finish) as it will bake in. I clean not only the faces but also the inner barrel.

Many of you that are wheels whores shouldn't use anything less.

                  brushes

                  Daytona Speed master

                  Boars Hair wheel Brush

Small Wheel Brush (for tight spots)

After they are clean, you can use a sealant to seal up the wheels to protect them in the future. This isn't a silver bullet solution, but will help ease future cleanings, and prevent damage.

Collinte insulator wax (this stuff is no joke its used to insulate high powered electric lines to prevent flash over), or an acrylic sealant like Menzerna's FMJ.

                    Like I said

Rinse wheels with water, and then spray on the P21S and let it dwell for a minute. The gel sticks and pulls the loose brake dust and dirt off.

                    Then agitate with various brushes

                    getting in the inner barrell

even the tires too to get the old dressing off.

Now this was one of budget details, at the request of some customers, we actually take the wheels off and clean them. Thats typical of a detail of higher end cars.

Nice work dangler! I need to find a detailer like that down here in Florida. Collinite 845 ive heard is really good, im giving them a shot next. Right now i use 1z einszett glanz wax. As for wheel brushed ive been wanting to buy the two boar ones you posted up. Which one do you like using for the inner barrell?

tivs31: Like dangler said its horrible to wait for shows to come around to wash the wheels, i need to wash mine atleast once a week. The amount of brake dust German cars let off is horrible and it'll eat away at your wheels finish in no time.

The Daytona Brush, (red one, and the bristles are synthetic) is great for inner barrel cleaning, and you can also bend the brushes spine (its wire) into an L-shape to get the back of the wheels spokes.

But due to the various designs of wheels out there, and i have all the brushes you see, and then some...some do a better job on certain shapes and contours than others.
