  • Opinions on Avant Garde wheels

    Hi guys,

I'm finally going to get my car off the stock 18's and I'm considering the Avant Garde (TOP SECRET)'s. I'm just seeing if anyone has any experience/knows anyone with experience with this brand.

If this is already been discussed please excuse me and direct me to that thread(I searched but couldn't find anything).

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

The OP is talking about the Brand Avant-Garde, they are great wheels and we are an Avant-Garde dealer. LMK what you are looking for and I can get you a great price. Crankey you have the BBS made for Audi boutique line of AvantGarde wheels from the 90s. Not related at all besides being wheels.

              You mean these?

I've always wondered about them, they look nice in pictures. I'd like to know how much they weigh. Are they a knock off brand? the fake rivets aren't a good sign...

I'd rather buy used real 3 piece rims and refinish them if needed than buy new fake splits.
but I like refinishing wheels and I don't care for fake splits.

Thanks for the input so far guys. Anybody with experience owning or know anyone with real experience? There's just not much out there on them. The consensus is they seem nice, in the sense that nobody's complaining.....

Yeah I'd love to go that route too. But a decent used set of 18" splits will basically double my budget from what I've found. I may not be looking in the right places(CL, ebay, forums like this one)so if there's any good places to look for good deals on wheels I'll definitely check that out. I saw one set of rays on ebay that would fit for a great deal but they were dual drilled and I wasn't crazy about their looks.

I'm on a tight budget so I need to keep the cost close to or under $1k. And that needs to include tires(if they're not 18's - I plan on using my current tires), and adapters if needed. I'd love a set of splits, I'd love to refinish a set myself. But that's just not an option. I've come to terms with that and I'm ok with it. I'm not refined enough(nor is my wallet deep enough) to have a preference on real/fake splits. Despite what I tell people who have never seen my car, I'm not really building a racecar.

So I need to keep the budget pretty low for S/W standards. But I'm not willing to save forever for a set of wheels. So I need to keep it to one-piece cast wheels from a decent manufacturer. That's why I'm here asking for opinions on the BRAND.

The wheels I'm looking at are around the same weight as my current stock wheels but come an inch wider so they're not really going to add any weight. These won't need hub rings, and I'm going to run my current tires. I also like that they're not a direct replica, so that's nice in itself as well. I just wish the rivets were spaced better and aligned with the spokes instead of just evenly distributed like they are. I need to ask if the rivets are removable for cleaning/polishing, and maybe paint down the road.... That would be nice. But I can live without them being removable.

I see where your at. for that kind of money I would be looking at used one piece rims that were straight and true but had some curb rash or needed a repaint.

I got $800 worth of Blizaks for $400 on ebay. not real cool low profile but still, good looking directional winter tires. seen some nice rims come and go on ebay too for pretty low prices.

I believe most fake splits have removable bolts too.

another thing is, if you want to polish and paint a rim, imho, it's better to go with used, it seems a shame to strip perfectly new clear coats, I mean that clear coat is part of the price. and if you have any skills and some tools, it's not that hard to grind/file/sand out some curb rash.

search google with your bolt pattern and you'll see lots of used wheels on forums for sale. personally I would stay local in craigs list though. or search ebay for used wheels in your bolt pattern and ET. it may take a while, but if you keep saving as you look your going to be open to more wheels as your savings mount up.
