  • wobble bolts/stud conversion

I've got a set of wheels that have a 5x114.3 bolt pattern and 12mm lug holes. I want to run them on my mkv gti which has a 5x112 bolt pattern. I'm trying to avoid drilling the lug holes on the wheels bigger, so here's the question:

If I run a 14mm to 12mm conversion stud on the car, will that give me enough movement to put the 5x114 wheels on? I was thinking that if I do that, the lugs won't seat properly because they won't be centered. If this isn't possible, I will need to bore the lug holes out to like 16mm and use wobble bolts.

You can do it, just purchase 12mm pcd variation nuts to fit the 14mm/12mm conversion.

BTW why not open up the lug holes? It is easy, safe, and cost effective compared to the conversion/wobble nuts.

I've done over 4 sets with a simple drill press and a 5/8ths bit, super fast/easy.

I have a drill press and good bits so maybe it would be easier to just do that

Indeed, it is just a little scary at first but will definitely be easier. Make sure the wheel is sitting perfectly flat, then when you pull the press down slowly, even if it is a little bit off, the lug hole will center and it cuts like butter. You will probably finish in a matter of minutes, and on the fourth one you will wonder why you ever wanted to go another route.

Buy a good bit if you don't have one, its a cheap investment to make sure it goes through easily.
