  • lip repair/re-polish

I know there are threads on this already, but couldnt see any with lips that were this far gone..

I have these 3" lips to restore as best I can - from a set of OZ Futura's. They are pretty straight but have minor curb rash all round. However, the worse part is the pittting around where the bolts go, it would seem the PO had rougly painted the face and oversprayed onto this part of the lip/bolts. This has, I assume, held water against the lip hence the particualry bad pitting:

    this is freshly dismantled.

after flaming ages with 60grit (wet) by hand:

after another lifetime of 60grit ny hand...

as you can see, its very slow going, particulary by hand, as I guess a fair bit of material needs to be removed to get past the pitting so you can start going through the grades of wet/dry before polishing. is there a tool, special grinding disk, type of paper, trick of the trade for something like this?

have polished a few sets of lips well before but these are pretty ugly! any help appreciated.

You can try to use a dremel with the lowest grit wheel you can find. Be extremely careful.
If not just keep going at it with 60 grit.

That pitting is pretty bad, but youre doing a great job so far!
