  • NooB to tire stretching... Q's

Hey guys... definitely not new to modding cars but im not too familiar with proper tire stretching - so please don't flame! I searched already and found some answers but just wanted to get some clarification...

I'm looking to run 225/35 tires on an 8.5" wheel... this good? Or should I go with 225/40 for a little more protection for the wheel? I know I would rather have the look of the thinner 35 series but I do not want to risk damage to the wheels cuz of the thin sidewall. Anybody with experience with these setups could chime in???

As far as brand, I was gonna go with Falken 452s... but I just read something that said the 512 are better? Any particular reason? Have people had bad experiences with the 452s?

Any information and suggestions is appreciated! Thanks!

BTW, they are 18x8.5 +30 Work CR Kais going on an 08 TL Type-S (Probably add 5mm spacers to go +25)

I went with 215/35 on my wheels, no experiance with the 40 series. Tho im a bit sketchy about how a 40series whoud look.
www.tyrestretch.com and the galleri here have some nice pictures.

i have 215/40 512s on a 9 on my car and its a pretty good looking stretch. i'd imagine a 205/40 would be the same stretch but if you don't want exposed lip go with 215s for sure! you should boss it out and get like 15mm spacers

225/anything on an 8.5 in wheel is not going to give you any stretch. I have 215/40s on my 8.5s and its minimal in my opinion.

If you want real stretch go with a 205/40/18 or slight stretch do a 215/40/18... Kinda weird sizes, I know.

fk452's run a size large and 512's run a size small.

            I'd go with 205/40/18 512's for a nice stretch.

This depends entirely on the tire. A 225/40 Falken 512 will look as stretched on an 8.5 as a different 215/40 would on the same wheel. 35 series on 18s look pretty tiny on most cars, especially a bigger car like a TL, so I'd recommend 40 series for sure
