  • Never heard of "metric" BMW wheels, anyone have any insight? Local craigslist find

A local place has an interesting set of wheels for sale. Are these a valuable find or something to ignore? Apparently they are "BMW M6 TRX RIMS"

Here is the description from the ad:

"These are METRIC rims, they require METRIC tires (tire size 240/45/415).

1 set of (4) BMW M6 rims with NO tires. Rims are in extremely nice condition with no major blemishes. Come with 1 set of (4) center caps."

There are basically no tire options in the us for metric wheels. Of there is one, the price is outrageously expensive.

QFT, many older European applications such as BMW, Ferrari, etc. had some models with metric wheels.

Yup. Those wheels came on a lot of US M6's. TRX 415mm. It's really old tire technology, and any old tires (ie, ones that don't come from Coker) are likely dry-rotted to hell. Having driven on them for a while before switching to e39 style 5's and fresh tires, they sometimes scared me. Especially in the wet.

tl;dr: don't buy those wheels unless you're obsessed with original parts for US M6's.

QFT and FYI OP, those things come up FS in so cal all the time, even as low as 80 bucks a set since no one wants them.

I have one of those, a guy was throwing them out because he couldn't find tires.

You can still find new TRX tires, at least here in Europe.

                They're expensive as fuck, though.

                Not worth the trouble.

I **** TRX package wheels and tires. They suck. I got a set of BBS RAs and when I found out what the deal was with them I just shredded them as drift spares. So shitty it's not even funny.

At least the guy was truthful about them... when I got mine, the guy had no knowledge about them whatsoever.
I got my RS 007s for 400 bucks, split them up and doubled my cash... took a while, but well worth it.
Still trying to get rid of the tires / lips / barrels.
It's like rock-crawling... in the streets...

DO NOT BOTHER IF YOU LIVE IN THE U.S.... I can't even stress that enough.. BBS RS 007's are where I found out about metric wheels.. you will not find tires without spending atleast 500 per tire..
